About Salthouse Harbour Hotel
Salthouse Harbour occupies a former salt warehouse on the regenerated Ipswich waterfront, looking directly across the marina. The conversion kept the industrial shell and filled it with a deliberately maximalist interior of contemporary art, heavy fabrics and mismatched furniture, which is either the main attraction or slightly too much depending on your taste. It is a long way from the beamed-inn template that dominates the rest of Suffolk.
Rooms are individually decorated and vary widely. The most desirable face the water, some with balconies, and the two penthouses at the top have floor-to-ceiling glass over the marina along with roll-top baths. Standard rooms are smaller and face inland but keep the same quality of finish. All have large flat-screen televisions and good bathroom products.
The Eaterie downstairs is a brasserie that stays open through the day, with a menu leaning on Suffolk meat and fish, and there is a well-stocked bar that draws non-residents. Afternoon tea is popular enough to book ahead at weekends. Parking is available on site, which matters in a town centre.
The appeal here is practicality combined with style. Ipswich station is a short taxi ride and puts London Liverpool Street within about an hour, so this works for anyone arriving by train. It is a reasonable base for Sutton Hoo, Woodbridge, Constable country and the Shotley peninsula, and it is consistently cheaper than an equivalent room on the coast. Better for couples and short breaks than for a beach holiday with children.

What guests say
Had a wonderful stay at this hotel. We had incredible service and all the staff were excellent. They went out of their way to help us when we asked to check in early so we could get ready for a wedding. Lunch and breakfast was great quality and the restaurant staff were excellent. Such a great location with lovely views of the harbour, the hotel is really contemporary and the room was extremely comfortable. Would definitely visit again

Amazing hotel. Such a beautiful room and the public areas are funky. The only downside was on Saturday evening there was only 1 night manager working after midnight. This manager was trying to cover opening the door, room service meals and drinks. He could only manage wine and beer along with the other tasks so we couldn’t have a late night cocktail. No big deal, we’d definitely stay again.

This was a wonderful birthday treat. We had a Marina View room, simply stunning, just to feel the calm of the water and watch all the boat life. Very comfortable room, a bit of luxury. All staff we encountered were happy to help, smiling and knowledgeable. Food and drink were top class. Happy to recommend

We stayed here the night of our wedding. Renovations were happening but honestly didn't affect us much at all, it was nice to have breakfast in bed the next day. Rooms so lovely and comfortable. Staff really helpful and friendly. View of marina absolutely stunning!
