Great little spot in Tooting. Went on a Saturday night without a booking, but they reserve spots for walk-ins which was a nice touch and saved the evening. The food is sharing-style small plates, and while the portions look small, they’re deceptively filling. We ordered the Sesame Aubergine, Fried Chicken with Smoky Miso Mayo, Handmade Dumplings, and a few baos - the Mr Bao Pork Belly, Beef Brisket Bao, and Prawn Toast Bao. There was also a lamb skewer special on the night which was a highlight. The aubergine and the lamb skewer were the standouts for me - the baos were good, but if I’m honest, the sharing plates edged them. Service was genuinely excellent - warm, attentive, not pushy. Came to about £40 a head for two which felt fair given how much we ate and drank. If Google let you do half stars this would be a 4.5. As it is, a strong 4 - and well worth a visit.

We went for the bottomless brunch at Daddy Bao and had a great time. The service was very attentive, with our cocktail carafes topped up as soon as they were halfway empty. We tried the Dark and Stormy (rum) and the Paloma (tequila), and I would 100% recommend the rum cocktail as your bottomless choice. Food wise, the Szechuan cucumber is a must order for sharing, and the aubergine and fried chicken are also great picks. The absolute star of the show though is the shiitake bao. Easily the best bao I have had in London, and that is coming from someone who does not even like mushrooms!! Overall, a really fun brunch with great service, food, drinks and good value for money.

Really enjoyed dinner here. Drinks, cocktails are seriously well made. Service was amazing. The food is delicious but but but just a touch on the salty side for my liking hence 4 stars.

Support your local, go here! For me Clapham and Wandsworth were for a long time described as a places full of culinary excellence - Tooting never typically appeared on that list. I have to tell you that places such as this help push that attitude and impression to this area. The restaurant is designed in a beautiful and quiet sort of way, it feels almost mysterious. This peculiar energy is followed by promptly scribbling down your order - a precise table of calculations in a restaurant that brims with creativity. This juxtaposition of modernity and tradition, spicy buns and cold sake creates an environment of excitement and it is something that an area like Tooting needed. Can I recommend something to you? Try the specials, their fried mushrooms were absolutely incredible. And you must order the pork belly bun - it’s sweet, it’s fatty and it’s filled with curious flavours. But I am sure that you can order anything here and walk away happy; keep an open mind and be willing to let your mind go as wild as the proprietors have in Daddy Bao. It pays off.
