Granny McPhee’s Cottage

Photo: Steve Harding

Rolling countryside surrounds Granny McPhee's Cottage, a detached barn conversion in an unspoilt corner of north Devon. Halwill Junction—with its post office, shop and village inn—sits a mile and a half away. The beaches of north Cornwall, known for surfing and coastal paths, are 17 miles south. Dartmoor, fishing, horse riding and golf are all within reach.

The cottage sleeps two in one bedroom with a super king bed and freeview television. Downstairs, an open-plan living space centres on a woodburner, with a separate dining area and a kitchen equipped for proper cooking: gas cooker, dishwasher, microwave and fridge. The bathroom has both a roll-top bath and walk-in shower. Outside, an enclosed garden with patio and furniture faces the countryside; a private hot tub sits here too. Essentials including electricity, heating, wi-fi and bed linen are included, plus initial fuel for the stove. There is a washing machine in an external utility room, an external freezer, parking for two cars and a bike store.

One well-behaved dog can stay free. The cottage is non-smoking and not suitable for children. You arrive after 15:00 and depart before 10:00.

Actually stayed in The Flower Barn next door but it's a lovely place to stay. Clean and comfortable with a nice touch welcome basket. Highly recommend.

A wonderful cottage in a beautiful location. The cottage was clean and beautifully furnished and a bottle of bubbles had been left in the fridge for us. The hot tub was perfect and we enjoyed watching the stars at night from it. The owner really couldn’t have done anymore to make our stay so enjoyable. We hope to come and stay again
