The Garden House

Photo: Paul Mintern

Couples and small families will find The Garden House well suited to a break away from routine. The cottage sits on Lower Winsford Farm near Yelverton in Torridge, with a pub within a mile and a car park on site. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms mean everyone has their own ensuite shower room; the master bedroom's zip-and-link bed can be split into twins if needed, while the second offers a king bed. Downstairs, the open-plan living space has a wood-burning stove, dining area and kitchen equipped for self-catering, with a dishwasher, air fryer and other appliances to hand.

What makes this property distinctive is the fully enclosed back garden with patio and barbecue. Your dog can roam freely outdoors while you cook, eat or simply sit with a drink. The cottage is built from stone and retains original character—a brick fireplace runs through the space, and floor-to-ceiling windows frame countryside views. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wi-fi are provided. The property is non-smoking.

Beautiful walled garden, lots of small paths that lead off the main ones. Covers a large area. The house does cake, snacks and light meals with drinks. Worth visiting i went in July so lots of beautiful plants.

Beautiful garden to be visited throughout the year. Tea room and plants to purchase. Some parts are wheelchair friendly and with lots of places to sit and admire.

A lovely time to visit sunny but not too hot. It's a beautiful place to walk around, has limited wheelchair access, cafe, toilets and bookshop plus free parking. Also friendly and helpful staff.

Stunning gardens, lovely tea room (great staff too) with a small range of local makers' wares &little plant shop too. Hidden gem - love it here! It's so different each season (incredible spring flowers &acers in autumn) and great for kids as there are lots of secret winding paths and different areas to explore. Highly recommend!
