A not to miss place to visit if you're a fan of steam railways. This is the top museum in the UK focussed on the Great Western Railway (GWR). Make sure that you visit on a Steam Day to ride behind a heritage locomotive. There's a decent café and lots to see around the site, would highly recommend. There's also a decent area for picnics with some activities for the little ones too.

This is certainly a place for the railway enthusiasts and of-course for those who want to take a step back in the history of old railway steam and diesel electric engines, train carriages, signal box and lot more. However, the car park opposite is not user friendly. The coins machines are out of order, and there is no facility to use the bank card either. One has to download Ringo App and the charges per hour are higher than what’s displayed on the board. Once you arrive at the station the both entrance were closed and we struggled to find that we had to request to go through the station ticket barriers, then cross under the station underpass and climb up the steps to arrive at the ticket counter for the Railway Centre. There’s a step free access for people with special needs. It’s £20 entry ticket that we thought was a bit over the top. There should a generous discount for the over six-tees. However, the instructions were clear, it was nicely sign posted everywhere in the centre, the staff were helpful and ready to answer questions. Last entry to the centre is 14:30 each day but the Centre closes at 16:00. Once inside you are ready to explore at your leisure.

Great place, not too many rules meaning sensible folk can have a look round the sheds trains and carriages. Roughly 3 hours to get round. Reasonably priced cafe

What an awesome trip back to the past, bringing back memories of the steam era. Plenty to see and do here, two steam trains operating ( only two minutes each way), signaling, restoration, air raid shelter, and seeing old steam engines and carriages. We visited the cafe where pasties , sausage rolls, chips and a variety of cakes and drinks were fairly priced. We spent about two and a half hours there and was well worth the visit
