A traditional pub-hotel on The Street in Wells-next-the-Sea, close to the Norfolk coast, known for its homemade pies and open fires.

About The Three Horseshoes

The Street in Wells-next-the-Sea runs down towards the harbour and salt marshes that define this stretch of the Norfolk coast, and The Three Horseshoes sits among the town's everyday bustle rather than apart from it. It's a proper pub first and a hotel second, with free on-site parking making it an easy base for exploring the coastline beyond.

Rooms are en-suite and straightforward, with free WiFi and drinks available, and breakfast is served to set guests up for the day. The heart of the place is downstairs, where open fires and a traditional bar create a cosy backdrop for hearty food, including homemade pies such as steak and ale, along with fish and chips and a decent range of beers. There's a garden for warmer days and staff are consistently described as friendly and attentive.

Beyond the doors, the surrounding area offers walking and cycling routes, watersports, and fishing, plus other pubs and restaurants nearby for those who want to explore further. It's a fair base for anyone wanting to spend days on the coast and evenings by the fire.

A lovely traditional country pub with a nice selection of beers. The food is superb I tried the steak shallot and guineas pie and was not disappointed, hand made on the premises, my wife had the beer battered haddock and vhips with mushy peas she you'd me it was some of the crispness batter she had tasted. The chalet accommodation was just perfect, the bed was extremely comfortable, the double shower was excellent. The staff were extremely friendly, nothing seemed too much trouble, they made you feel most welcome. I will definitely be going to stay here again, both my wife and I both said this was one of the best hotel experiences we have had. Thank you to everyone at the hotel for making our stay a memorable one.

Absolutely appalling service. Avoid if you have a baby. We rang in advance to book a table for two adults and our 11-month-old and specifically asked for a highchair. How can you take a booking knowing a baby is coming and then not have a highchair available? We were left waiting around 15 minutes before being told they couldn’t even access the highchair and had to call maintenance. That is completely unacceptable. If you advertise yourselves as family friendly, basic equipment like a highchair should be readily available. What made it even worse was the attitude of the staff. Nobody seemed remotely bothered that we were standing around with a baby waiting to be seated properly. There was no urgency, no apology worth mentioning, and certainly no effort to resolve the situation quickly. The place was quiet, so there was no excuse for such poor service. While waiting, we saw the Sunday roasts being served. For almost £26 each, they looked incredibly underwhelming and certainly not worth the price. We left without eating because the whole experience was so badly handled. A complete waste of our time and a hugely disappointing start to our afternoon. We will not be returning and certainly wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone with young children.

Friendly service and very relaxing. Lovely evening in a proper pub, which is not as common as it should be these days, so we definitelydon'ttake it for granted! Food was perfect - pie was local, homemade and delicious, with great spring vegetables. My burger was one of the best I've had, and was topped off with "Norfolk Alpine cheese" - Ive never been to the Norfolk Alps, but the cheese was excellent! Local, traditional deserts were on point and were the perfect way to finish dinner off. We were camping locally, but the accommodation also looks excellent and we're already planning a return trip!

My wife and I have eaten here many times over several years, have always loved the pies (quality and range), Blackshore stout and great ambience/service. Ate here yesterday since ownership changed hands, and pretty disappointed overall. First, the online menu is not representative of the changed menu, it's unfair to patrons for a pub famed for a choice of over a half dozen pies not to state that isn't the case anymore. Second, I'm skeptical of a pub going upmarket and deciding 33% more for a pie is justified, but it's unacceptable to be served what appear to be fries out of a packet. Too bad also there's no more Blackshore stout anymore It's a real shame the new management feel the need to change a winning formula of a wide range of fantastic pies at a reasonable price, Blackshore on tap, to offer fewer pies, and at prices that don't justify the final product.
