About The Swan Hotel
The Swan Hotel has stood on Sadler Street facing Wells Cathedral since it first opened as a coaching inn in the 1420s, and its position remains its defining feature: several of its 48 rooms look directly across to the cathedral's West Front and the green in front of it.
Rooms are individually designed, ranging from cosy traditional doubles to suites with four-poster beds and roll-top baths, and the hotel's restaurant serves modern British food built around West Country ingredients, with a terrace used for outdoor dining in summer.
As part of the Coaching Inn Group, the Swan combines its historic fabric with contemporary service, on-site parking and function rooms, making it equally suited to a weekend break or a wedding party visiting the cathedral.

We had our wedding at the Swan and it was just perfect. All of the staff were amazing leading up to the day, helping us plan and taking a huge weight off our shoulders. The day itself was incredible. Beautiful venue, brilliant staff, incredible food. Our guests mentioned they want to have their weddings at the Swan one day. A special shout out to Cathii who did a brilliant job of taking charge of the day itself. She was so attentive and friendly, really helping to bring the relaxed, family atmosphere we had dreamed of. Would give more than five stars if I could!

A pleasant stay. Good sized room and good price. Good service. Responded well to both their (minor) errors and mine (leaving things behind). Great view of the cathedral from their outside seating. Car park entry quite tight but my fairly wide car (Tesla S) fitted. Free (slow) EV charger. Only one but no competition for it while I was there.

STAY We really enjoyed our stay at The Swan Wells. Right from our arrival all the staff we interacted with were genuinely helpful, very professional whilst being friendly, and they seemed a happy team. We also appreciated the dog goodies in our room when we arrived - very thoughtful. Breakfast was delicious. Overall great value. Highly recommended hotel.

We had a wonderful experience at the Swan Hotel bar in Wells. The view of the cathedral while enjoying cocktails was absolutely stunning and made for a perfect atmosphere. A huge thank you to Callum for the excellent service today — friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout. We’ll definitely be back!
