Fern Hill Lodge
West Devon
West Devon's rural landscape draws people seeking genuine seclusion, and Fern Hill Lodge delivers exactly that. This off-grid treehouse stands alone above its own lake, surrounded by forest with no neighbours except deer and birds. A single bedroom with a double bed, wood burner for warmth, and a balcony for watching the landscape are the core of the place. You have a summer-house nearby for outdoor cooking, and a rowing boat on the water (available March to September). The owners will drive you down to the lodge when you arrive and leave you with jeep access during your stay.
The setup is deliberately basic. A two-ring gas stove handles cooking, fresh water comes from a bowser, and the toilet is a composting system in its own shelter—there's no shower. What you get instead is genuine quiet: no mains electricity apart from what you bring, no phone signal anxiety, no ambient noise. Bed linen and towels are provided, along with electricity for essentials. Logs for the burner cost extra. The property is for adults only. This is the right choice if you want to step away from everyday comforts for a night or two, not for anyone expecting mod cons or quick access to town amenities.
