Grajo Cottage stands on Doddick Farm, a working beef and sheep holding on the lower slopes of Blencathra in the Lake District National Park. The fell dominates the view across the valley, its appearance shifting through the seasons. The cottage sits in a small row of holiday properties just off the A66, between Threlkeld and Scales—two small villages with local pubs—and roughly halfway between Penrith and Keswick.

The stone-built cottage sleeps six across three bedrooms: two doubles and a twin. Downstairs there is a living room with a 40-inch TV and a kitchen/dining room with a full range of appliances including dishwasher and washing machine. A bathroom with bath and shower is upstairs, along with the bedrooms. Bed linen, towels, electricity and wifi are included. The garden opposite the cottage has a south-facing patio with furniture, reachable either by eight steps or via a ramp. There is parking on site for three cars.

The location suits families or groups wanting access to fell walking and lake activities. Keswick Golf Club lies less than a mile away. The property is non-smoking.

The location is well placed for travelling to popular spots around the lakes. Unfortunately the cleanliness and disrepair of the property let it down a lot. It was very dirty, there were crumbs on the shelves in cupboards, every pan we used needed cleaning first. The washing machine was barely functional, and when we got it working it leaked water over the floor. +1 star for the farm cat who was the only welcome we had, very friendly.

Don't...just don't. Shower needed cleaning before use. Heating hit and miss, bathroom remains freezing and growing black mould on window. No cooking pans/trays except one old frying pan, a tin without a base and one saucepan. Sofa cushions disgusting. Noisy too at night as cars/vans pass by at night right under the window. Walls must be thin as we heard an entire football match from next door at 2-3am. Left early to get sleep! Can't in all honesty recommend this place.

We stayed at Lucy’s lodge, on Friday 21st of November, checked in no issues at all however upon entry to the lodge the heating was not on and turned out to be one electric radiator for the entire lodge, summer bedding was on and we we’re absolutely frozen we asked for a fan heater which didn’t make any difference and it was the coldest weekend of the year. We were awake most of the night the lodge is clean but shower needs attention and the radiator as below seems to have blue marks all over it and dirty the towel radiator in the bathroom doesn’t work and was absolutely freezing and false walls. We checked out the next day but despite trying to contact the farmer to ask for a partial refund for the nights we couldn’t possibly stay he wasn't at all interested in responding. Which i find very disrespectful and disappointing. AVOID

We spent three nights at Doddick Middle at Easter 2024. Six adults (three couples). The cottage is large and well kept with excellent facilities. Views are amazing (Blencathra at the back and Clough Head at the front). Parking at the front of the cottage. Nearby area if you want to have a fire in a log burner. Outside seating for a sunny day. Easy walk to excellent pubs and food in nearby Scales and Threlkeld. We also walked straight from the cottage to Scales Tarn. Not far to use Ullswater or Derwentwater for kayaking. Most importantly for me - the cottage is quiet. I thought the main road would be noisy, but the road is down in a cutting so you very rarely hear it at the cottage. Great place. I would stay again and I would definitely recommend it.
