Solitude Barn - Doddick Beck
Westmorland and Furness
Photo: Google Maps
Solitude Barn sits in Guardhouse, a hamlet between Threlkeld and Keswick where the River Glenderamackin runs through open countryside. The setting offers immediate access to fell walking—Blencathra, Great Mell Fell and Clough Head are visible from the property, and footpaths begin at your door. The area is known for red squirrels, which locals feed; you may spot them in the garden and surrounding trees. Being sheep country, any dog must stay on a lead.
The converted barn is a single storey with everything on one level: a living and dining room with Freeview TV, a kitchen equipped for everyday cooking, a bedroom with a kingsize bed and TV, and a shower room with heated towel rail. Wifi, electricity, bed linen and towels are provided. There is parking for one car on site.
Scales village and its pub lie three-quarters of a mile away via a signposted footpath across fields. Threlkeld, with two gastro pubs serving local ales, is a scenic 1¾-mile riverside walk. Keswick—five miles away—has restaurants, pubs, shops and attractions including the Derwent Pencil Museum, Theatre by the Lake, and Puzzling Place. The property suits couples looking for countryside quiet, or anyone wanting the Lake District's peaks and walking without being in town.
