Melmerby is a small Eden Valley village where sandstone buildings line quiet streets, streams run past open greens, and the fell rises behind. The Old Village Bakery sits near the heart of things, and a pub serving food is within walking distance. Lavender Cottage occupies a courtyard setting here, ground-floor and single-storey, with direct access and parking for two cars on site.

Inside are two bedrooms—one with a double bed and ensuite shower, one with two singles—plus a full bathroom with a bath and shower. The kitchen has an electric oven and gas hob for cooking from scratch, and a dishwasher for the clearing up. A sitting room, utility room with washer-dryer, and small garden with patio complete the space. Bed linen, towels and wi-fi are included; heating is by gas. One dog can stay free of charge.

The location works for walking country—the North Pennines and Lake District are reachable—or simply for sitting still in a village that feels properly removed from things. No smoking indoors.

We stayed at Lavendar cottage recently. We had a much needed restful and relaxing time there. Everything you need and more. Warm homely and cozy place to stay with family and our dog Bow. If I was being picky another lamp needed in the lounge for a cozier ambience in the evening. Lovely touch with little welcome pack. We will definitely stayagain
