Orrest Head is a detached pod completed in 2022, one of eight on a discreet site behind a Georgian coaching inn in Winster Valley. The building combines contemporary comfort with country styling: wood panelling, neutral tones and materials chosen for durability rather than fuss. Everything happens on ground level across an open-plan layout—living space, kitchen and bedroom flow into one another, with french doors opening onto a private terrace where the woodland views emerge on clearer days.
The bedroom holds a kingsize bed and wall-mounted smart TV. The ensuite is the standout: marble-effect panelling, walk-in shower with rainfall head, heated towel rail and LED mirror. The kitchen is compact but functional, with a microwave and fridge for self-catering basics. Bed linen, towels, wi-fi and heating are all included. You have parking for one car on site, and the grounds contain shared play facilities and a children's play area.
Six steps lead to the entrance. The property suits couples or those needing just one bedroom; children are welcome, and a travel cot is available on request. The location puts you within reach of Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere, while the inn next door serves locally sourced food and real ales. No smoking indoors.

A fairly easy short hike to the top, plenty of resting points along the way if needed. Definitely worth the hike!

Went for a hike here on a rainy day & it took us around 30 minutes or so to reach the top. The views were absolutely stunning. It was quite misty and covered in clouds, but honestly, that made it feel even more beautiful. The trail itself is easy to moderate, and it’s really well-maintained and properly paved, too. Would definitely recommend it.

Access is just on the outskirts of Windermere. Two paths - one steep with steps and one gently winding - take you to a viewpoint with beautiful panoramic views !! Only takes about half hour to get up to the top and is soooo worth the walk !! There is also a sculpture trail part way up with carved animals to discover amongst the trees and plants..

Lovely walk from Windermere there's two paths easy and medium. I'd pick easy path if with kids as was a bit of a slog with little one on my back up medium trail. Definitely worth while if in Windermere. Dog loved it too.
