Smardale Cottages

Couples and small families will find Smardale Cottages works well as a base for exploring the Pennine landscape. The two bedrooms—one with a super kingsize bed, one with a double—sleep four. There is one bathroom with both bath and shower. The whole cottage is yours alone, with a small dog welcome if needed.

Downstairs, a contemporary kitchen handles full cooking with electric oven and hob, dishwasher, and fridge-freezer. The living and dining space centres on a woodburner and looks out over the garden. A utility room with washing machine is tucked beside a ground-floor toilet. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels are included. The enclosed, south-facing garden has patio seating and room to sit out in warmer weather. You can park two cars on site.

What sets this place apart is the direct access to Smardale Gill Nature Reserve, right at the bottom of the garden. The cottage sits within the National Park, with the Settle-Carlisle railway viaduct visible across the Fells and numerous walks beginning from the door, including connections to the Coast to Coast path. Children under 10 are not accommodated. No smoking inside.
