The Old Dairy Cottage @ Ainstable

Westmorland and Furness

View on Google Maps

Ainstable is a small, quiet village in the Eden Valley, positioned between the Lake District and the Scottish border. From the cottage doorstep, country lanes lead toward the River Eden, less than a mile away, and the surrounding Cumbrian countryside opens out toward Hadrian's Wall, the fells, and the Solway Coast. The village itself has a pub and restaurant, while Armathwaite—just over a mile off—is home to the Settle-Carlisle railway line.

The Old Dairy Cottage has been fully refurbished and retains the character of its Victorian origins: exposed beams run through the open-plan living, kitchen and dining space, while the bedroom features original stonework. Everything is on the ground floor. You get a king bed, a shower room, and a conservatory that overlooks the garden. The kitchen is equipped for proper cooking. Heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included. There is private parking for one car and an enclosed, lawned front garden with seating.

The cottage sleeps two and welcomes one well-behaved dog. No smoking inside. It suits couples or small groups wanting access to both walking country and transport links—the railway journey to Carlisle is genuinely scenic, and Dumfries and Galloway lie within easy reach across the border.
