You enter Widows Cottage to find a living and dining space with a multi-fuel burner, sofa bed, and television—a comfortable place to gather. The kitchen has an electric cooker and microwave for cooking; a washing machine sits here too. Upstairs are two bedrooms: one with a double bed, one with two singles. The bathroom has a bath with shower over. The cottage sleeps 6 and takes one dog. Wi-Fi, electricity and bed linen are included, along with initial fuel for the burner.
The 18th-century stone building sits on a steep gravel track overlooking wooded valleys and the North Pennine Fells, with an enclosed garden, barbecue, and parking for two cars. Footpaths lead directly onto the Pennine Way network and local fell tracks, making this a natural base for walkers and mountain bikers. Alston—a steep-streeted market town with pubs and shops—is a mile away. The South Tynedale Steam Railway, lead mining heritage sites, and a transport museum are nearby. Hadrian's Wall and the Lake District lie within a 30-minute drive. No smoking.
