About Castle Hotel Windsor - MGallery
The Castle Hotel occupies a long Georgian frontage at 18 High Street, directly across the road from Windsor Castle's main gates. Parts of the building go back to the seventeenth century, when it operated as a coaching inn on the London road; the pillared Georgian facade came later, and the interior still carries the Regency additions made when the town was rebuilt around the castle. It now trades within Accor's MGallery collection.
There are 108 rooms and suites spread across the original house and a rear extension. The front rooms are the ones people book for - several look directly at the castle walls and the guard route along the High Street - while those to the rear are noticeably quieter, which matters here because the High Street carries coach traffic through the day. Decor is restrained and contemporary, with the period detail left to the public rooms.
Downstairs there is a bar and brasserie, a drawing room used for afternoon tea, and the Windsor Suite, a Regency ballroom with its original plasterwork that handles weddings and events. Staff will arrange castle tickets and can advise on guard change timings, which is genuinely useful given how much the schedule moves. There is no spa or pool.
The hotel suits visitors whose trip is built around the castle and who want to walk out of the front door into it, along with business guests using Windsor for its Heathrow access. Parking is by valet at a surcharge and needs pre-booking - the High Street has none. Both railway stations are three or four minutes on foot.
What guests say
Honestly, by far our best stay in England. Rooms are clean, well-appointed (including snacks and toiletries), beds were comfortable, staff was lovely, great location, and fairly priced parking options. I have already told a friend that makes frequent business trips to London and surrounding areas that if she stays in Windsor, this is the place.

I ended up staying here during their renovation. I imagine the hotel is very pretty and convenient when not being in construction. I absolutely appreciated the fact that they put their guests far away from the on-going work. We never heard a peep of construction. The location is so close to everything and worth that in the price itself. The room was lovely, the beds comfortable and the bathroom was nice.

The Mews suites were very spacious, clean, and well taken care of. The location was perfect and the staff was super friendly. The breakfast staff tried to make everyone's stay super special and was very accommodating! We highly recommend a stay at the castle hotel!

The rooms were so comfortable: the beds, the showers, the complementary mini bar, the air-conditioning. Location is perfect for a Heathrow layover. With regards to the ongoing construction, I would suggest ignoring the signage out front about taking a very convoluted route to the car park. It would’ve been much easier to get out at the hotel entrance and simply walk down the little green AstroTurf walkway to the left.
