A seven-room pub inn on Windsor's High Street, well suited to couples or families wanting castle sightseeing with a proper bar downstairs.
About The George Inn
The George Inn suits travellers who want to be within walking distance of Windsor Castle and the River Thames without staying in a big chain hotel. With just seven rooms above a working pub, it's better suited to short leisure breaks or a weekend of sightseeing than business trips needing lots of facilities, and families are catered for with kids' meals and family rooms alongside the usual en-suite bathrooms and free WiFi.
Downstairs, the restaurant and bar are as much a part of the stay as the rooms, with a wide selection of beers and ales and a menu that regulars return for, particularly the fish and chips, the Sunday roast, and the braised pork cheeks. Breakfast is available, and there's a garden for quieter moments and luggage storage if you're moving on elsewhere. Service is generally friendly and the atmosphere cosy, though the kitchen doesn't always hit the same high note on every visit.
Being on the High Street means pubs, restaurants, and entertainment are all close by, with a golf course also nearby for those wanting to fill a day beyond the castle and riverside. It's a straightforward, well-placed base for exploring Windsor on foot.

Extremely disappointing experience. Staff were friendly, but food was really poor. The hake goujons were extremely greasy and bright yellow with a bad taste. Apparently due to turmeric, but it wasn't stated anywhere. I sent the dish back and they offered a refund. Sadly the chicken wings were equally poor. Salad served with the wings was limp and clearly passed it's sell by date. Greasy underneath too and not tasty. Chips were ok. I don't recommend eating here if you are expecting something tasty and fresh. Location is nice.

Unfortunately a pretty poor experience, despite the positive reviews we had read. The positives were the room was superficially clean and the bed was fairly comfortable. There’s a TV. Also, the shower has good water pressure. Moreover, the location is excellent - you’re less than a 5 minute walk from Windsor castle. However, the rest was not so great… On arrival, three different staff members talked among themselves about who was going to check us in, being obviously annoyed about having to do this. They were not friendly or welcoming - so this was an unpleasant start. It took a while to get us checked in as their computer system wasn’t working - no one’s fault but after a long journey it was unpleasant standing for so long. Due to this, they weren’t able to find our room so chose an empty room. This ended up being possibly the worst room. It was incredibly loud, not with noise from the pub below our room but from outside. We could hear the staff telling them it’s their last drink repeatedly, but this went on for hours. Furthermore, the window was rather drafty so that definitely wouldn’t help with the noise. I completely understand it’s a pub and we’ve stayed in pubs before, but it seemed more like a night club with the outside noise level. The room itself was run down. There were broken light bulbs. The paint was peeling off. There was mould in the bathroom. It was very cold, there was a radiator that we were able to turn up. This was not a cheap option either, definitely not worth the money paid.

We pop into The George a few times a year for drinks and food. We have always had an amazing experience there. The local Windsor & Eton brewery drinks are served perfectly and the atmosphere is very cosy and relaxed in winter, and the beer garden is inviting in the summer. Everyone at The George Inn is welcoming, professional and friendly. If you're lucky enough to meet Kim, your visit will be amazing.

Diners like this pub's delicious food, especially the fish and chips, Sunday roast, and braised pork cheeks, and appreciate the wide selection of beers and ales. They also highlight the friendly and welcoming staff, cozy atmosphere, and convenient location.
Some reviews mention the food can be inconsistent.
