About The Cottage of Content

The Cottage of Content is a country pub in the small hamlet of Carey, near Hoarwithy, a few miles from Ross-on-Wye on the Herefordshire side of the valley. It has built a following well beyond the immediate area through word of mouth and Good Pub Guide recognition, without losing the feel of a genuine village local.

A handful of comfortable rooms sit above the bar and dining rooms, aimed squarely at weekend stays and countryside breaks rather than business travel, and the kitchen serves a seasonal, produce-led menu through the week.

Its rural setting suits visitors wanting a quiet base within easy reach of Ross-on-Wye, the River Wye itself and the drive south towards Goodrich and Symonds Yat.

I had the best tapas meal at the cottage of content last night. It's a beautiful old 15th century pub at Carey, the chef Richard cooked us the most delicious selection of tapas. And they also sell the best local 8% local cider and local sparkling wine. Thanks again to Richard and the whole team at the cottage of content.

Nice sunny day, nothing much to do: pub lunch. Chose this pub because of proximity, reviews and the name. It is an attractive place, pleasantly decorated and with a welcoming fire. The choice of beers is interesting, the Hobson's is very decent. Just had ham, egg and chips which was good. The chips were outstanding. Staff are very friendly and service was superb. The bar stools look extremely comfortable. There are a couple of car parks and plenty of outside seating for the warmer weather.
