A really nice place to take family to. I'd have given 4 stars because translations are audio only, not text (on the automatic rides), but the bilingual staff of highly educated historians easily makes up for that. Overall a great and unmissable unique experience.

Ok so obviously this place is moreso targeted at kids than adults. It has a fun little talk at the beginning which requires audience participation, and a good amount of activities for kids to enjoy within the gallery. But the place is still so fun to visit as an adult! The ride is really interesting (both what they tell you and the ride itself with the cool sets and animatronics) and super immersive, and then the museum!!! SO SO SO much cool stuff and awesome staff willing to give you so much information and answer all your questions. They even had a staff member for the ride queue that showed off some objects and explained them. It was really great and I had the best time. So great of a time that the only picture I took was of the poo.

This museum gives a great overview and and is rich in information mostly about Vikings. The whole museum is underground and there is a bag check just do you know. The main part is on this large 6 person ski lift type of machine, which is amazing for younger kids who are tired after walking and exploring York all day. You still learn a lot and fly through this circuit with hyperrealistic people who help explain some of the story. After this, you gain access to a large archive of items related to vikings but it’s only one room, and there you can purchase custom coins from this museum which are hand made by the museum staff. As a whole, it’s a amazing museum and it’s worth a visit.

WOW, don't leave York without visiting this or Ragnor will get you! A really well-done attraction that documents the city in Viking times and it's on the actual site of the village. The very knowledgeable guide who introduced the site with the help of a video show got us in the mood and the ride was truly amazing and with Sean Bean doing the commentary! After that the exhibits were well presented and the shop had some neat items in it. The ride though was the best part for me and worth the money.
