About Lils On The Waterfront
Five Kings Staith puts Lils On The Waterfront directly on York's riverside, a spot that shapes much of what the hotel offers. Rooms are en-suite with drinks available in-room and free WiFi throughout, plus a 24 hour reception for whenever you arrive or need something sorted. Upkeep isn't always consistent across rooms, so it's worth knowing this is a characterful waterfront stay rather than a polished one.
The on-site bar and bistro are a strong point, with staff generally attentive and food served in generous portions, though service can be slow at busier times. Families are catered for with kids meals on the menu, and the setting by the water makes for a pleasant spot to eat regardless.
Beyond the hotel, the walking area along the waterfront leads easily into York's centre, with pubs, bars, restaurants and entertainment all nearby, and a golf course within reach for those wanting to venture further. It's a location built for exploring on foot, with the historic city right on the doorstep.

What guests say
Stayed in the hotel and the rooms are pretty rough. It was definitely not clean and the bed was very uncomfortable. You have to go up a really steep staircase to get to the rooms and they don't have a regular staff so if you need toilet paper or something, you're out of luck. Went to the restaurant the first day and the service was fine and the food was good, but expensive. The location is very good and the river is nice. You do get discounts at the bar/restaurant if you stay in the hotel, so that's a perk.

A great York budget stopover stay, in the thick of all the attractions and pubs / restaurants for a transport free visit. The room and bathroom were decent, even if the mattress was super budget and the dingy hallways somewhat hostel like. Acceptable and recommended if the hotel and room is not the main focus of your visit.

We stayed in room 4 and it was in serious need of refurbishment. It served our purpose for the night but I can imagine anyone wanting to enjoy the hotel room will be disappointed. Lots of cracked floor tiles which we caught our socks on, the room was roasting when we arrived so cracked the window open and immediately got the humm of bird droppings from the courtyard area, I'm not sure if the area is accessible for cleaning but it definitely needs it. The 24hr access was useful and only 10 minutes from the shambles, equally 5 minutes from castle hill carpark (we spent £36 for 4pm-11am parking) and the waterfront location is great. There's a lot going for the place, it just needs work. The staff however were lovely and although we didn't have breakfast, which was an extra cost, it smelt nice.

The food was truly awful, the worst meal we have had in a very long time. I can still taste the stale chip fat in my throat. Portions tiny, which didn’t matter as it was inedible. They take payment before you eat…. The toilets were also vile.

People say this hotel and bistro offers a great waterfront location, with friendly and attentive staff, and tasty food with good portions.
Other reviews mention the service can be inefficient and the rooms can be poorly maintained.
