What visitors say
We recently did a Chocolate Making Workshop at York Cocoa Works, and it was such a genuinely brilliant experience for a mixed group of ages. We had family ranging from older relatives through to teenagers, and it managed to hit that sweet spot of being educational, hands-on, and really fun for everyone. The young guy running the workshop was great, knew his stuff and is clearly passionate about chocolate and the Cocoa Works. He was great at explaining both the science and craft behind it in a way that was easy to follow. I feel like I learned a little bit about how chocolate is made, and not just how to melt it and pour it into a mould. The process itself was playful and just competitive enough to make it interesting. Everyone in our group was focused on creating their perfect personal chocolate block, but there was also an unspoken secondary goal: making the bar that everyone else would secretly agree was the best. What really makes the experience special is how inclusive and well-paced it is. The teenagers stayed engaged, the adults didn’t feel patronised, and the whole thing felt fun and relaxed rather than rushed. It is a pretty focussed time, but we still found time to talk, laugh, compare progress and flavours, and genuinely enjoyed doing something together as a family. If you do the workshop, you get a discount at the cafe. The day we came it was freezing and raining, so a hot chocolate was a must. As expected and as it should be - it was a good hot chocolate. All up, York Cocoa Works offers something a bit special: a high-quality experience that’s fun and informative. Perfect for families, visitors to York, oompa-loompas in training, choc-aholics, or anyone looking for a memorable activity that’s a bit different. Highly recommended.

Came here for my friends hen party for a chocolate bar making workshop - was such good fun! Got to choose our type of chocolate, the flavours, toppings and what shape we wanted to use out of what was available. A lovely gift to take home! It was an hour we spent at the workshop and were able to collect the finished bar once it had fully set half an hour later. What I really liked was it was informative but not boring about the background of where the chocolate comes from and how it was made, was the perfect balance!🍫

We had an amazing chocolate making experience with Sam. He was super knowledgeable, friendly and funny and was fantastic with our dietary requirements and our toddler. We came away with 2 amazing bars of chocolate and a wealth of new chocolate knowledge! Thank you so much!
