About Golden Fleece York

Rooms at Golden Fleece York come with en-suite bathrooms and the sense that you're sleeping above a proper old pub rather than a chain hotel, with drinks available in room and breakfast included to start the day. The building's age gives each room its own character, and 24 hour reception means arrivals and late nights aren't a problem.

Downstairs, the restaurant and bar are the heart of the place, serving pies and Sunday roasts alongside regular live music. There's a garden and outdoor seating for warmer days, kids' meals for families, and meeting rooms if business brings you here. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is a genuine draw, though service can slow down when things get busy.

The location on Pavement puts York Minster and the Shambles within easy walking distance, with plenty more pubs, bars and restaurants nearby, and a golf course for those wanting to venture further out. Free WiFi and on-site parking round out the practical side of a stay built on history and atmosphere rather than polish.

Smashing traditional pub with the added extra of history and ghost stories. Came for our son's 21st and thoroughly enjoyed. Atmosphere, staff, food all absolutely spot on. Even managed to embarrass the staff by asking them to bring out a cake!! Genuinely lovely, worth a look, food fab and very welcoming. 10/10❤️ Ps cocktails 🍸🍹 were delish

Been to this pub a few times just for the popularity of the place . Me and my wife had a Sunday lunch and it tasted great. Cleaned my plate with no problem . Cost approx £44.00 for 2 lunches and 2 drinks. The floorboards are all sloping as it's a very old pub and reported to be haunted. They also offer rooms with en suite if your willing to stay there. It's a must place to visit when you visit York.

We've been a few times. Always a busy place. We sat out back which was lovely. I had a pint of Old Peculiar which was very good. Only crititwould be having it served in a Lilley's cider glass, especially as my other half had a Lilley's cider and that was in an inchs glass. But overall a nice pub

Really solid traditional pub experience at the Golden Fleece. Great atmosphere with loads of character and a proper historic feel that makes it stand out straight away. The beer selection was good and well kept. Staff were friendly and service was smooth even when it was busy. Overall, a great spot for a drink and a bite in a genuinely unique setting. Would definitely go back.
