About York Rowntree Park Club Campsite

Just a ten-minute stroll from York's medieval walls, this Caravan and Motorhome Club site occupies a functional riverside strip beside the thirty-acre Rowntree Park, gifted to the city by the chocolate family in 1921. You'll find level hardstanding and grass pitches with electric hook-ups, a modern shower block, laundry, and a small shop, all kept tidy by the wardens. Standards are reliably high, though the pitches are closer together than rural alternatives and the setting feels more urban park than countryside retreat.

The real draw is the location. A riverside path leads straight into the city centre past Clifford's Tower and the Castle Museum, while Rowntree Park next door offers a café, tennis courts, and a playground to keep children entertained car-free. Dogs are welcome and the Ouse path makes for easy walking in both directions. Being low-lying, the site is prone to occasional flooding and closes over winter, so check dates before booking. Ideal for couples and families wanting to explore York properly on foot.

York Rowntrees remains one of our absolute favourite Caravan Club sites in the country. Having stayed here numerous times over the last few years while visiting our son at university, we can confidently say it never misses a beat. The location is simply unbeatable. You are within minutes of the city center and right on the doorstep of the beautiful Rowntree Park. The team is consistently friendly and welcoming. The site itself is always beautifully presented with pristine, well-maintained facilities. This is an incredibly popular site so be sure to book well in advance!

Great check-in. Two female wardens. Very helpful. Great location. Site clean. Toilet block I’d mark down a point or two. Been in cleaner facilities but if the clients don’t help matters the wardens can’t be in there 24/7. Been here lots of times and York never disappoints

Just visited for the fourth time and it never disappoints. Be mindful and respectful of your arrival time as you have nowhere to wait. Beautiful walk into town and along the riverbank. Staff are great with a lovely sense of humour. Thank you once again… be back soon.

Came here for Christmas for the 2nd year running and had a lovely time at this site again. The facilities are warm clean with pipping hot showers . The wash up is enclosed and warm. Pitches are well maintained and the site is very tidy. It’s very close to York Center about a 15 minute walk. Masses of restaurants, shops , theatres and there’s museums also. A nice touch was on Christmas morning there was a tub of chocolates outside our van…. Probably Father Christmas Definitely be back.
