What guests say
I recently stayed at Judges Court York for three nights and, unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. I completely understand that the hotel can’t control the heatwave we experienced, but the rooms were unbearably hot. The only cooling provided was a small fan, which made very little difference, and it was extremely difficult to sleep. For the price of the hotel, I would expect better facilities, especially air conditioning or a more effective way of keeping guests comfortable. The biggest disappointment was the customer service. Most of the reception staff were rude, unwelcoming, and came across as uninterested in helping guests. A warm welcome goes a long way, especially when you’re paying premium prices, but sadly that was missing throughout most of our stay. The only positive interaction we had was with an older lady on reception, who was friendly and smiled when she let our friends into our room to surprise my sister for her 30th birthday. She was the only member of staff who made us feel welcome. The rooms themselves are also very dated and could do with significant refurbishment. Overall, I don’t feel the hotel offers value for money. I had booked this trip as a special treat for my sister’s 30th birthday, and she was very disappointed with the hotel. It’s a shame because the location is great, but the customer service, outdated rooms, and lack of adequate cooling really let the experience down. I hope the hotel invests in improving both its facilities and staff training, as it has the potential to be much better

I've just returned from an overnight stay and highly recommend this hotel. From arrival to departure we were made to feel very welcome and looked after by both the ladies on reception. My room was beautifully designed and I can't think of anything that would have improved my stay. The bed was large and comfortable. The bathroom was well equipped with plenty of fluffy towels and high quality complimentary toiletries. A real plus for me was a good hairdryer, saves bringing your own from home. Thank you for a lovely stay ... I didn't want to leave.

The standard of the room and overall cleanliness of the hotel was great. The room was warm and comfortable, with plenty of coffee, biscuits and tea provided and a gorgeous bathtub. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was nice and hot. Everything was very clean and well prepared, so thank you to the room attendants for their work. However, the atmosphere and level of welcome didn’t quite match what I would expect from a 5-star hotel. We didn’t feel especially welcomed on arrival, and during check-in it wasn’t mentioned that guests couldn’t leave bags for the day. I completely understand that it’s a small hotel, but a quick heads-up at check-in would have been appreciated. While the room itself was lovely, the overall hospitality felt lacking. I’ve stayed in hostels that felt more accommodating and friendly, so unfortunately I wouldn’t personally describe this as a 5-star experience.

Stayed here with my partner for two nights. The hotel is in a great location in the middle of York. We had a few major issues with our room however, the main one being privacy. We stayed in room 7 which is situated right next to reception on the ground floor - we could hear every conversation taking place and everyone checking in and out. The window in our room looked out onto a beer garden where the patrons of the pub would easily be able to look in if we had not kept the curtains closed for the majority of our stay. Our bathroom was situated under the main stairs which lead to the rooms on the higher floors so were disturbed by people walking up and down them all day. The hotel is nicely decorated but has somewhat fallen in to disrepair with cracked paint and battered furniture on most walls. The room was covered in dust which was thick on the bed headrest and other surfaces. The bathroom was small and had a lot of damage. The sink was cracked and the toilet seat didn’t fit the toilet. The ceiling of the shower had a lot of cracked paint. The window in the bathroom also had a small amount of mould (see picture). There were pipes under the floor tiles that heated up when you used the shower and these got quite hot when barefoot. The complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits were a nice offer but the kettle had a lot of limescale on it to a point where we did not feel comfortable using it. These things are a shame as it feels like it could be a really nice place to stay if these issues were fixed.
