Seven miles south of York, the village of Strensall sits beside the River Foss with enough everyday amenities to make a stay self-sufficient: three pubs, shops, a post office and takeaways are all within walking distance. Buses run regularly into York itself, where the minster, Viking Centre and medieval streets are among the draws. The surrounding countryside includes Strensall Common, a large conservation area favoured by birdwatchers, and Vale of York Country Park nearby.
Poppy Cottage is a single-storey property sleeping four across two bedrooms—a king and a pair of singles—with one bathroom. The main living space is open plan, with French doors onto a decked garden area where a private four-person hot tub awaits. Inside, a woodburner, smart TV and built-in sound system are there if the weather turns. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, and essentials like electricity, heating, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. There is private parking on site and a bike store. The whole cottage is yours alone.
The property suits families, small groups or couples wanting to be away from a city without being cut off from it. No smoking is permitted throughout.

This was our second visit and for longer. We love it. The cottages are amazing, fully equipped and a lovely welcome hamper. The location is perfect for visiting surrounding towns and of course York. Loads of supermarkets nearby. If you want an amazing quiet extremely comfortable place to stay with the added luxury of the hot tub, Hoxne Cottages is the place to come. Thanks for everything Tony, we will be back!

Had a lovely stay at Daisy Cottage for the weekend for one of our friends 40th. Great cottage with lovely small courtyard with hot tub. Only 10 min walk into village to the pub and a couple of shops (tesco express). 15 min taxi ride into york. Would definately recommend and will be returning. Thank you

We have just spent the Easter bank holiday weekend at the cottages for the daughter’s hen party The cottages are absolutely fantastic. Very modern and to a high standard. Everything you needed was there. The owner even set up a long table in one of the Cottage so that we were all able to eat together, a real thoughtful touch . There was also a lovely welcome basket in all the cottages as well another great touch. The hot tub was a great bonus also. Would highly recommend these cottages.

This was our 3rd or 4th stay at Hoxne Cottages, the fact we keep coming back speaks for itself. The place itself is very clean and comfortable. The hot tub is amazing. It’s so quiet which makes it perfect for relaxing and chilling out. It’s in a good location about 10 mins from Monks Cross retail park and 20 mins from York itself. Tony the owner was so accommodating with helping to put some balloons up and taking delivery for me, this was a big thank you and helped to make my mums birthday weekend even more special. As always will definitely be returning.
