The Lodge

Photo: The Lodge

The Lodge is a substantial Victorian-era property that has been refurbished as a holiday rental near York. Built with high ceilings and period proportions, it retains character while offering modern comforts throughout. The house spreads across two floors: on the ground floor, a living room with Smart TV opens into a separate dining room, with a fully equipped kitchen featuring an electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher and coffee machine. A toilet completes the ground floor. Upstairs are three bedrooms—a kingsize with an en-suite shower room, a double bed room, and a third with a zip-and-link bed that can be twin singles on request—plus a main bathroom with a bath, shower and heated towel rail.

The kitchen is genuinely ready for cooking: beyond the usual appliances, there is a combi microwave-oven-grill, allowing you to prepare almost anything. Electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. Outside, a front garden with furniture and a working barbecue overlooks the surrounding area, with space for three cars to park on the drive. One dog is welcome at no extra charge. The property is non-smoking.

The location puts you within walking distance of York University campus and close enough to the city centre for browsing independent shops and restaurants. This is a six-person rental that sleeps the whole group under one roof.

My gran has been in The Lodge since August and I can honestly say that this has been such a positive move not only for her but also for us as a family. Over the past year she had lost her "sparkle" but since moving into The Lodge she now has a new lease of life, she loves been around the other residents, the meals are lovely and the activity program is amazing in fact she enjoys it so much we have become an inconvenience to her when we visit as it takes her away from the time she spends with everyone else! Regarding the care aspect this is first class, communication with the management team / staff members has far surpassed any expectations that I had, nothing is too much trouble. Whenever we call to see her (on spec) she is always clean, well cared for and having a great time. I would not hesitate to recommend The Lodge to anyone looking for a high standard of care for their loved ones, it is a very hard decision making the move into a care home but we are so pleased we chose here.

The Lodge is a lovely residential home where my mum spent her last few months. The home is very clean, the residents always have drinks and food and activities to stimulate them and keep them entertained. The carers are super friendly and are very attentive to all the residents needs. Any issues or questions were acted on immediately and everyone was welcomed and made to feel like part of The Lodge family The staff were excellent and treated my mum with respect and care during her illness and looked after her with genuine love. Thank you so much for looking after my mum when she needed it the most.

My mum went into The Lodge, after a few disastrous care homes before. The Lodge has recently changed management, and wow, what a difference. Lovely, caring atmosphere, the staff are loyal, and nothing, trust me, nothing is ever too much trouble. You can go and enjoy your time with your loved one is something money can never buy. 100% dedication from a lovely team that work so hard. Honestly cannot praise The Lodge and the team enough.

My dad never had his own clothes on - the staff initially seemed caring, but the residents sat in the living/dining area from morning until bed time - absolutely no stimulation or engagement given... on rare occasions that there was an activity we were invited to attend. I had to fight to get my dad an ambulance as he was incredibly unwell sat in a t shirt only in November, he had an open wound on his foot which was infected and he had no socks or slippers on just a bare foot on the filthy floor. I insisted on an ambulance and he was taken to hospital, he had pneumonia and sepsis and died a few days later - I feel i have let my dad down. The most vulnerable people in society are allowed to be looked after the least qualified and poorly paid staff. This is not CARING it is exploiting the most precious people in our lives at a time when CARE is needed most.... I do hope the owner who only cares about £'s finally gets what is due to her... within 2 days of losing dad we had a whopping bill to pay ... absolutely disgusting .. I will always blame the lack of care for us losing our Dad in a way that was down to TOTAL NEGLECT! I reported this almost 4 years ago... in much detail and the CQC is still not responding to their own findings in the correct way.... Needs shutting down with immediate effect.
