About Hotel du Vin & Bistro York

Hotel du Vin York occupies a Grade II listed early nineteenth-century mansion on The Mount, the Georgian road running south-west out of the city just beyond Micklegate Bar. The group has kept the proportions of the original house, with tall sash windows, a stone staircase and high-ceilinged reception rooms, and added the dark wood, leather and wine-cellar styling that runs through all of its properties.

The 44 bedrooms and suites are individually designed and vary a good deal in size. Standard rooms are comfortable rather than large; the loft suites and the rooms in the main house are considerably more generous, with roll-top baths, monsoon showers and, in a few cases, small terraces. Egyptian cotton bedding, a well-stocked minibar and flat-screen televisions are standard, and several rooms take dogs.

The bistro is the heart of the place, serving classic French cooking with a British accent, and the wine list is unusually long for a hotel of this size, with knowledgeable staff to steer you through it. There is a bar with an open fire, a courtyard garden for warmer evenings, and a private dining room in the cellar. The hotel is also a popular wedding venue, which can make weekends busy.

It suits couples and small groups who want somewhere with character and a serious restaurant but not the formality of a country house. The walk into the city centre takes about ten to fifteen minutes through Micklegate, and the railway station is closer still. There is on-site parking, though spaces are limited and worth booking. Facilities stop at the restaurant and bar; there is no pool or spa.

Really, all of the staff were fantastic. Abbie, Scott, Yasi, and the rest of the team were absolutely amazing and helped make our day even more special. The quality of the food was outstanding, and all of our guests were extremely impressed. The arancini and the beef were simply superb. I genuinely cannot find a single fault. Throughout the entire process, everyone treated us with kindness, professionalism, patience, and flexibility. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they did to make our wedding so memorable. The venue itself is elegant and beautiful, providing the perfect setting for a special occasion. We truly can't thank the team enough and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an exceptional venue and service.

Spent four nights, with breakfast, while visiting York. Room was comfortable, attractive, clean and in excellent repair. Bathroom clean and convenient. Initially found the bathroom sink was emptying too slowly. Reported it to the desk and it was promptly fixed. Breakfast was excellent and Michelle was cheerful, friendly, efficient and offered suggestions on things to do in York (without being intrusive). All staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and professional. Altogether a lovely stay in an excellent hotel in an interesting town.

Lovely historic hotel, nicely decorated rooms, great blackout curtains. Nice bathroom but bath high so a bit difficult to get in & out of shower. Excellent location - 10 mins walk to city walls & another 10 to centre of City. Plenty of parking. Very friendly staff. Great breakfast choices. We had a really nice stay & will stay here again.

Loved it. Had a junior suite, and it was very well presented. The air conditioning units outside ran all night, but it didn't affect our sleep; just a bit of white noise. Room was great. 5/10 minute walk up into York centre and the walls. Bar and hotel was really nice. Staff were great. Breakfast was good. Plenty of parking.
