About The Churchill Hotel
The Churchill Hotel is a Grade II* listed Georgian mansion built around 1827 at 65 Bootham, a short walk outside Bootham Bar on the north-west side of the city. It was converted into a fourteen-bedroom hotel in 1985 and extended in 2006 to its present 32 rooms. The house keeps its original staircase, cornicing and tall windows, and the walls carry a collection of material connected with Winston Churchill, after whom the house is named.
Bedrooms are split between the original mansion and the newer garden wing. Rooms in the old house have the higher ceilings and the period detail; those in the extension are more uniform in size and layout, and generally quieter. All are en suite with a television, tea and coffee tray and free wi-fi, and the larger rooms have seating areas and views over the front lawn.
Dewsnaps Brasserie handles breakfast and dinner, with a menu of British dishes using Yorkshire produce, and The Wellington Bar has a decent range of craft beer, gin and whisky. The garden at the back is large by York standards and has a wood-fired pizza oven that runs in warmer months, which makes it a pleasant place to eat outside. There is free parking on site, unusual for a hotel this close to the centre.
The position works well for sightseeing: Bootham Bar, the Minster, the Museum Gardens and York Theatre Royal are all within a ten-minute walk, and Clifton and the river are close in the other direction. It suits couples, small family groups and business guests who want a well-run mid-range hotel with parking and food on site, without the price of the city's five-star options.

Second time staying here, fantastic location service great friendly staff. Breakfast is ok a little over priced but good. Outside eating and drinking area is relaxing and well maintained. The double room 120, was small but clean and tidy, some areas within the room and bathroom needs touching up. Around £160 per night Ac would be great but fans are available if needed and we needed them ☺️

Beautiful location, walking distance to the centre of York, onsite parking at a fee, but also within walking distance council parking on margate at similar fee. Staff amazing and all very professional and attentive, we sat in the Beautiful garden as we were a little early for check in. The garden had ample comfortable seating and private dining pods. We enjoyed a drink and pizza 🍕 cooked in the wood fired oven within the garden, drinks are brought from the bar inside via a qr code, the guy on the bar a fellow cumbrian was especially attentive nothing was to much trouble. Our room was a small double, but still a decent size, clean and comfortable. Some people have mentioned the noise from trains as runs next to the hotel, we didnt feel this was a nuisance as no trains overnight. A beautiful hotel, just a shame we were only staying one night, but will definitely be back

This experience was unforgettable. An unbelievable setting within a busy street. The servers was fantastic and really friendly, we were always greeted with a smile and helpfulness. The food and drinks made you want to stay and not leave, one of my favourite getaway hotels!

We had a nice time, the shower was the best I've ever seen at a hotel and very powerful. The room however was very small and there was only a tiny window that didn't open much. As such the temperature was too hot to sleep comfortably at night. If booking a few nights you will definitely need to book a bigger room as the wardrobe space was small also, although we were fine for 2 night's. Location is great.
