We have just had a fantastic mini break here, we stayed for 4 nights in one of the ensuite rooms and it was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly. The location was perfect, on a quiet street, a stones throw from shops, cafes & bars. York city centre was about a 15 minute walk. It really is a great B&B and would love to come back!

I had a mixed experience staying at this hotel. The building is very charming, in a great location, and the staff are friendly. The breakfast was also very nice. However, I was really disappointed with the room. When I booked, I didn’t realise it would be a basic room with shared bathroom and toilet facilities. The shower was right next to my room, and someone took a shower at 3 am, which woke me up. What’s more, one of the neighbours clearly didn’t know how to use a toilet brush, making the bathroom very unpleasant to use. Finally, the attic room was a real oven; despite having a fan, it was impossible to cool down. This is definitely an area for improvement.

We enjoyed everything about our experience at Farthings. It felt like a home away from home. From the lovely furniture in the house to the cosy bed overlooking the rain - it was not only whimsical but also nostalgic. The host was very welcoming and attentive with every step of our stay. We also ate breakfast that we highly recommend - it was a great way to finish our trip in York. Thank you so much Farthings and look forward to our next stay (hopefully soon)!

The rooms are clean, the beds are very comfortable and the breakfast is exceptional, supplemented by lovely hosting. The fly in the ointment for many travellers is the shared bathrooms. Given the age and layout of the building I see that there is precious little that can realistically be done about this but it remains an issue, potentially more so for female guests. Otherwise this quaint guesthouse is very highly recommended.
