About The Plough Inn

York Minster and the National Railway Museum are both an easy walk from The Plough Inn on Main Street, making this traditional inn a practical base for exploring the city's main sights. Golf, entertainment and a good spread of other pubs and restaurants are close by too, so there's plenty to fill a stay beyond the property itself.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, free WiFi and drinks available in room, and free on-site parking makes arriving by car straightforward. The 24 hour reception adds a bit of flexibility for early or late check-ins.

The restaurant and bar are a strong point, with a varied menu including vegetarian choices, generous portions and fair prices, plus kids meals for families. There's a garden and outdoor seating for warmer days, and the atmosphere in the bar draws a good crowd, so booking a table ahead is worth doing, particularly at weekends. Breakfast is also available to set guests up for a day of sightseeing.

This was our first visit to York and my wife’s choice of lodgings could not have been bettered. It’s well situated within less than a 5 minute drive from York Minster but it’s a good 30 minute walk for the younger fit people. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food of offer is proper home made food with very generous helpings. Breakfast bar was very varied and all the cooked breakfasts were delicious. Rooms were spotless and comfy and everything worked as they should. Would definitely recommend and hopefully will return in the near future! Thank you to all at the Plough Inn.🍻👌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Stayed here two nights. The staff were lovely I could see they work very hard . The breakfast staff and the evening pub staff were very pleasant and helpful and the food was excellent I can see why the pub both nights was full. They had tea coffee and biscuits and bottles water, which was refilled for the next day. The room itself no 3 was not great for me it was quiet small and very dark decor which made it clostrophobic, we were in the front of the pub and it must be a main road into York the noise of the traffic was terrible it kept us awake it was never ending I couldn't wait to leave. The shower wasn't very warm or powerful

Great place to stay. Food and staff were fantastic. I was particularly impressed with the breakfast selection and quality and lovely staff serving. Rooms are a bit dated but very clean and comfortable. Being just a short bus ride from the centre of York it was just ideal. We were very pleased with our stay

We were staying in York for the weekend. Called in on chance on Friday without a booking and they managed to fit us in. Liked it so much that we booked for Saturday night. Great food, prompt service. All freshly prepared. Good selection of drinks. Very old pub with great character and atmosphere
