About The Anchor Inn
The Anchor Inn is a brick-and-beam village pub with rooms, its low ceilings and traditional decor giving it the settled, lived-in character of a proper English inn. Set in Lower Froyle near Alton, it pairs old-fashioned charm with the sort of comforts today's guests expect, and the atmosphere throughout is warm rather than formal.
Bedrooms are en-suite and individually styled, mixing traditional furnishings with modern touches such as good showers, and family rooms are available for those travelling with children. The restaurant and bar serve food built around quality ingredients, with a well-regarded Sunday roast and a breakfast menu that runs to vegetarian and vegan options. There's a garden and outdoor seating for warmer days, plus a picnic area, room service, and drinks brought straight to your room if you'd rather not move.
Practical extras include free on-site parking, an electric vehicle charge point, free WiFi, luggage storage, and 24-hour reception, along with meeting rooms and concierge services for those combining business with leisure. The inn sits within reach of walking routes, golf and fishing, and Alton's own pubs and restaurants, with Jane Austen's House and the Watercress Line both nearby for a day out.

What guests say
Really enjoyed our two night stay. The two breakfasts and one evening meal were delicious, in particular the freshly made 'pan o chocolate' stands out. All the staff were friendly, cheerful and helpful. The room and ensuite was large and comfortable and we slept well.We have relatives on the South coast and it was a very convenient stopping off point on the way home to visit Chawton and Gilbert Whites house and museum and do a couple of lovely walks in the area. The only slight criticism was that for us northerners the drinks were on the pricey side! We would definitely recommend this for a meal or as a B and B.

I had a really lovely stay at The Anchor. There was a water bowl and some treats waiting in my room for my dog, which was a really thoughtful touch and much appreciated. The room was excellent, and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. If I had one piece of constructive criticism, it would be that, while the TV was a great size, it could do with being upgraded to a smart TV. Other than that, everything was perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would happily return.

On my way back from a long road journey, my wife and I stopped off at a town called Bentley looking for somewhere to eat at the strange time of around 4pm, Monday. We found the Anchor Inn purely by chance. We were made extremely welcome by the young man behind the bar. The food and drink were excellent, and I was pleasantly surprised by their vegan options. We ate inside which is tastefully decorated. There are a few low ceilings, and there is a stunning and large secret garden out the back with breath-taking panoramic views. A service charge of 10% is automatically added to the bill (including drinks) which seemed a little strange, but was fully deserved. It wasn’t busy in there at the time so I don’t know how they’d cope if it was. For me, this was the best pub experience I’ve had in many years and I will definitely be returning.

Such a lovely pub. We felt welcomed and were checked in quickly. Our room was comfortable and a good size and the en suite was huge. The shower was great. It would’ve been helpful to have a tray for our tea,,coffee etc as I was worried about marking the furniture. The room was cosy but lighting wasn’t great for applying make up and doing hair. The mirror in the bedroom was also to high when seated at the dressing table. The bed was large and comfortable. We had a very nice dinner in the restaurant. The breakfast selection was good and well cooked. On the second morning there was a wedding being held and the preparation meant service was a bit slow, but was still very delicious. The local area was picturesque. The garden looks great for warmer evenings.
