Surrounded by the fells of Great Langdale, the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel sits at the foot of some of the Lake District's best-known walking routes, making it a natural base for anyone heading out onto the hills. The hotel has 22 rooms, many looking straight out over the fells, and the atmosphere is more traditional walkers' inn than polished country hotel. There's a restaurant and bar on site serving hearty food, with breakfasts and pies particularly well regarded, though portions have occasionally been described as on the smaller side. A garden, lift, free WiFi and free on-site parking round out the practical side, and pets are welcome. Staff are consistently noted for being friendly and ready to help with local knowledge, from route suggestions to luggage storage before or after a walk.

Visited this beautiful hotel for the Great Langdale Gala, and the pop-up bar definitely didn’t disappoint. We were greeted by three friendly, polite, and helpful members of staff who provided excellent service throughout. There was a great selection of drinks, and the prices were very reasonable, especially for a gala and a pop-up bar. A fantastic experience overall—hopefully it’s just as good again next year. 5/5, no complaints!

The dinner is very delicious, but the portion size is rather small if you're hiking and hungry. We had to order some extra fries / chips after our lamb for 28,5£. Kinda sad to still be hungry after this much money was spent on food. The beer is good and the staff is fantastic and very friendly. The breakfast is more than enough for 14£ each, but the coffee is as transparent as a Scandinavian government. They also refill your water bottles with tap water which is very kind!

Beautiful hotel with ample parking set in breath taking scenery, ideally located as a base to walk in the Langdale Pikes. Very friendly, efficient staff, great food and drink selection. Spacious, clean room, ours was duel aspect giving views of the entire valley which was a bonus!

Absolutely great time here with our little boy. Amazing location with great views from the hotel. Lovely bar, restaurant and delicious breakfast and most importantly really helpful and friendly staff who have been great. We even extended our stay for another night and they managed to keep our same room and will definitely be back again soon! Thanks a lot all, highly recommended
