About The Eltermere Inn

For travellers who want their days spent on the fells and their evenings spent by a fire with a decent dinner, The Eltermere Inn fits the brief. Set in the village of Elterwater near Langdale Valley and Skelwith Force, it works well as a base for walking and cycling, with paths leading straight out into the surrounding Lake District countryside.

The inn has 13 rooms, including family options, all with en-suite bathrooms and views over the lakes and mountains. Rooms come with drinks provided, and the property offers free WiFi, luggage storage and 24 hour reception, along with free on-site parking. Outside there's a garden and picnic area, and packed lunches can be arranged for a day out on the fells.

The restaurant and bar are a strong point, with a menu covering roasts, trout and tortellini at fair prices, served in a dining room that makes the most of the mountain outlook. Staff are attentive and happy to point guests towards local walks and eateries. It suits couples and walking groups more than those wanting nightlife, given the village setting and the pubs and restaurants nearby rather than on the doorstep.

Lovely inn booked last minute for a night away. Lovely quiet location. Great for walking. One other close by pub which we had a drink at. The hotel itself is well maintained. Food was excellent. We felt it was perhaps slightly short staffed but the staff were doing their absolute best to keep everyone happy. Room was nice. Would recommend.

Popped in here for post walk drink and ended up booking for dinner. The staff were wonderful. Very welcoming and helpful. We had a window table for dinner and the views were beautiful. Definitely created a wonderful feel. The food was very simple but done very well. I had the salmon fishcake. It was delightfully crisp and definitely more salmon than potato. My partner had the sticky toffee pudding (of course!) and wasn't disappointed. Will definitely be back when we visit the area next.

Went here for a birthday meal. Was asked to order in advance because there was 10 of us, which is understandable. But then... there were parts of the dishes missing? No olives with the bread, which was stale and dissapointing. When we asked about it we didnt even get an apology. My main - the trio of lamb was good - but for around £50 a head the service was dreadful and really dissapointed me. I wouldnt return because of the terrible service at such a high price point. Wasnt asked a single time how everything was, or if we wanted more drinks. Had to go and find them several times. No care was taken to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Decided to go to the pub down the road for desert instead of staying here for longer. Pub was great, much better service there.

This place is VERY VERY disappointing beginning with the lack of TOTAL interest of the staff to the ran down appearance. The atmosphere is drab and the staff are so disinterested in making you feel comfortable. Breakfast and dinner times are short and if you want to relax in the lounge afterwards, you are told to leave at 10pm because of «  FIRE RISK »!!! Worth mentioning is the continuous noise from the peacocks to the point where we were given a set of earplugs. Truly disappointing. Will not return to this place.
