About The Windermere Rooms at The Wateredge Inn, Ambleside

A bar and restaurant with views over the water set the tone at The Windermere Rooms at The Wateredge Inn, where breakfast is included and room service or a packed lunch can be arranged for days out on the fells or the lake. Drinks can be brought straight to the room, and the inn's own bar makes a natural spot to end the day after walking or watching the boats come in at Waterhead Bay.

There are 25 en-suite rooms spread across three floors, each with free WiFi, and practical extras such as 24 hour reception and luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures. The building sits right on Waterhead Bay near Ambleside, with Lake Windermere on the doorstep for walking, cycling and watersports, and fishing available nearby too.

Beyond the inn itself, Ambleside's pubs, restaurants and eateries are within easy reach, along with entertainment for evenings when a change of scene is wanted. Free on-site parking is provided, which makes exploring the wider Lake District straightforward without worrying about where to leave the car.

Perfect location to see Windermere at it's best. Close to lots of amenities, boat trips, bus routes and town centre. Lots of walking areas. Room has ample space, very well decorated and a very comfy bed, great shower. The rooms are very well catered with tea, coffee and biscuits.

For £165 the overall experience was disappointing. Check-in was very unclear as it simply referred to “the Inn” without clear directions, and both myself and another guest were left waiting at the bar for quite some time while staff continued serving others without acknowledging guests trying to check in. We were told food was served until 9pm, however after queueing again to order at around 6:30pm we were then told food was no longer being served, and then told it could still be possible but with around a 90-minute wait, leaving very limited options at that time of night. The room was also located directly next to the stairs, meaning there was constant noise from guests returning late and leaving again from around 6am onwards, resulting in a poor night’s sleep. In addition, there appeared to be a leak coming from either the fan or air conditioning unit in the room.

This was a lovely hotel. We stayed here for one night in the lakes. The location is amazing, right next to the lake and only a short walk from Ambleside and a short drive from Windermere. The rooms are really clean, cosy and well decorated. The bed was comfortable with a sizable bathroom for a hotel. The staff were all really friendly and the breakfast at the wateredge inn was amazing, fresh food, which is something you don’t often get with continentals. There was a wide variety of options to choose from. 100% recommend for someone wanting somewhere to stay close to all the action!

Just had a night staying here with our young dog, so it's dog friendly which is great. Room was clean, warm and well equipped. We faced the lake which was a lovely view, we appreciate that. Breakfast was lovely and all staff we met were friendly and welcoming especially the lovely lady on breakfast Sunday morning. Car park had plenty of spaces so that was great. Can't really get any better with the location. I have deducted one star because of the ridiculously thin walls between rooms. We heard the people in the room nextdoor having 'adult time' and they weren't even being loud! We heard snoring, talking (at a volume you should be able to speak in!) as if we were in the same room. I'm not blaming them at all, it was the walls. Considering we had a family room I'd be annoyed if we had kids with us and heard what we heard! Definitely needs addressing. I don't think I'd return because of the inadequate soundproofing which is a shame because location is wonderful.
