Camping in Ayr

Ayr and the surrounding South Ayrshire coastline offer a good spread of camping and touring options, from a compact club site within walking distance of the town centre to larger holiday parks strung along the coast toward Prestwick and Turnberry. The coastal parks make the most of Ayrshire's beaches and golf courses, with direct or near-direct access to the sand and views across to Arran, while inland sites trade the sea view for quieter, more rural surroundings in the farmland and woodland that spreads out from the town.

Facilities across the area cover the full range of camping styles, from grass and hardstanding touring pitches with electric hook-up to static caravans and holiday lodges for those who prefer not to bring their own accommodation. Several sites are geared toward families, with playgrounds, shops and entertainment programmes through the summer season, while smaller, quieter sites suit couples and touring caravanners looking for a simple, well-run base rather than a full holiday park experience. Dogs are welcome at most of the sites in the area, generally on leads and with a limit per pitch, and most offer some form of on-site shop or are within a short drive of supermarkets in Ayr itself.

Booking ahead is strongly advised through the main summer season, particularly for pitches with sea views or during the Ayrshire agricultural shows and race meetings, when demand across the whole area rises sharply. Outside peak season, several sites remain open through the shoulder months and even into winter, giving a quieter, cheaper alternative for those happy to trade guaranteed sunshine for empty beaches and lower rates.
