About The Wheelwrights Arms

Homemade pizzas and a proper Sunday roast sit at the heart of The Wheelwrights Arms, an inn on Church Lane just outside Bath that pairs a well-regarded kitchen with comfortable, straightforward accommodation. The plant-based option on the menu is worth a mention too, alongside a bar and open fires that give the place a cosy, unhurried feel in the evenings.

Rooms are en-suite and come with the sort of amenities you actually use - decent WiFi, drinks in the room, and family rooms for those travelling with children. Breakfast and packed lunches are available, and the on-site restaurant is backed up by room service and a laundry service for longer stays. Outside, there's a garden, picnic area and outdoor seating, plus free and secure on-site parking, which makes arriving by car straightforward.

The inn also handles weddings and meetings, with concierge services and 24-hour reception on hand throughout. Golf, fishing, cycling and walking are all nearby, along with other pubs and restaurants in the area, and pets are welcome. It works well as a base for exploring Bath and the surrounding Somerset countryside, with the comfort of a good meal waiting back at the inn.

I stayed at The Wheelwrights Arms while attending an event nearby and had a really positive experience. The accommodation was spacious, simple and modern, with everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Yet what really stood out was the staff. They were genuinely helpful, thoughtful and willing to go the extra mile. One evening, they even rang me to check whether I’d be having dinner, as they were hoping to close the kitchen slightly early because of the extreme heat that day. They made it clear they would happily wait if I was planning to eat, which I thought was a really considerate touch. Breakfast on both mornings was brilliant. As someone who travels regularly and often stays in well-known and five-star hotels, I can honestly say it was one of the best breakfasts I’ve had. A simple, comfortable stay made memorable by excellent service and great food. I’d happily recommend it.

We stopped by during our cycling tour on the two tunnels loop. This is a really nice stop, especially if you like cider. I can absolutely recommend the Kicking Goat. We were given sombreros to wear instead of a table number, a very funny and nice touch. Good food, an excellent cider selection and great service. What's not to like ?

Went to the pub as part of a uni society outing. One of the better moments of my student life. Great food, great people, a cozy fireplace, all in the middle of the English countryside. How could it get any better? 10/10 experience.

Unfortunately, a bit underwhelming. We booked a room for Easter weekend and a table in the evening as the menu on offer looked amazing. The room was ok but a bit grubby in places and the bed quite small. We sat down with our family for dinner to be given a menu that had 3 pizzas on it, a pea dish and a mushroom dish. That was it. Nothing else offered as the menu on the website suggested. When we enquired, we were told that on a Sunday they use what is left over. We then had to find somewhere else to eat at short notice. We also had to pay for breakfast which was probably our fault but we assumed after having paid £173 for one night, breakfast would be included. The breakfast was good.
