About Holiday Inn Express Birmingham NEC

A breakfast selection that stretches to good vegetarian and gluten-free choices is one of the things Holiday Inn Express Birmingham NEC does particularly well. This 179-room hotel on Bickenhill Parkway is built for practicality, sitting close to both the NEC and Birmingham Airport, making it a straightforward base for event visitors and travellers alike.

Stayed here before holiday and left car for 2 weeks. Staff was great on arrival. Hotel room was great amd food and drink was great. No issue with car parking. To feel more secure you you make it a reg barrier. Makenzie was a great staff member on arrival when checking us in. Will use again

Stayed here the night before our flight. We had booked 2 rooms for 3 adults. On check in they only gave us 1 key and I had to remind the clerk that we had booked 2 rooms. We were given a second key which was for the room next door, which was great for us. 1st room was a double, with a sofa to lounge on. 2nd room had a double and the sofa had been pulled out to create a further double bed. The sofa bed was so uncomfortable, the mattress was just not thick enough to stop you feeling the metal framework of the sofa bed. The pillows were a mix of being too soft or too hard, none of our party of 3 slept well that night. The air con in our room was noisy and kept clicking on and off and you could hear a sound like running water coming from it, it kept the room at a decent temperature, our second room the air con unit stopped working after a few minutes and the room was cold all night. One thing we did all like was the way the bathroom door opened and could be closed to seal just the toilet area for use or to seal the entire bathroom area for privacy whilst showering. Breakfast the next morning was buffet style, food was plentiful, hot and tasty, we were all able to enjoy a good meal before heading to the airport which was approx 10 minutes via taxi. Not sure we'd stay here again but for a budget room with onsite parking whilst away, close to the airport it was useable for the one night.

Rooms fine but showing a bit of age, some plugs not working and the shower head needed cleaning. The breakfast is ok, but the coffee is nothing to write home about, the milk is sweetened and you will get half a cup at best from the machines. Location is good for NEC and airport. Parking is additional on site.

I'm a believer in you get what you pay for, so £84.00 for 1 night plus discounted parking for £12.50 so £96.50 for a double room for the night, included a buffet breakfast which was ok, close'ish to the NEC, prob a 20min walk. However... the room!! Very dated, dirty feeling 80s decor but for one night we accepted what we had paid for, then the bathroom.... OMG I didn't even brush my teeth in it, let alone have a shower, mouldy ceiling above the shower, wonkey mixer bar tap, mould around the tiles and grime along the floor line, grime around the taps and very water stained, moulded blue sink ( like a train toilet) and we were given a disabled room that we wasn't told about! because all the other double rooms were booked. Emergency pull cords both sides of the bed and one in the bathroom which I accidently pulled thinking it was the lights and ended up with the manager at the door😬, I've never been to a hotel and left feeling more dirty than when I arrived, fair to say probably one of the hotel rooms I have ever visited, never not had a shower before but I didn't want to walk in the bathroom with bare feet, After we finished breakfast and returned to the room to collect our bags to leave I went to use the toilet in our room couldn't believe there was water coming down from the ceiling extractor fan from upstairs somewhere, sums up our stay at this hotel. We were told there were no room upgrades as all the rooms are the same! In hindsight you're better off paying another 40-50 quid to stay in a better hotel. Staff though were a friendly team. Got to say reception and dining area was nice, I think it's time Holiday Inn Express need to think about a refurb of rooms a bit sharpish!
