About Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel

Pendigo Lake laps right up against this stretch of Pendigo Way, and it's on those shores that Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel makes its home, with the NEC, Resorts World and Birmingham Airport all within easy reach and the M42 close by for anyone arriving by car. It's a big, purpose-built hotel geared towards events and exhibitions as much as leisure stays, with 795 rooms spread across five floors, many looking out over the water.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, family options and accessible rooms among the choices, plus the usual conveniences of room service, drinks in the room and free WiFi. Some of the rooms show their age, but they're kept clean and comfortable, and the lake views are a genuine highlight. Breakfast has a good spread to choose from, and there's a restaurant, bar and outdoor seating on-site, alongside a gym, spa and sauna, and an indoor swimming pool that's well looked after. For business visitors there are meeting rooms and concierge services, while weddings are catered for with a bridal suite.

Beyond the hotel itself, golf and fishing are both available nearby, and there are pubs, restaurants and other entertainment within reach. On-site parking is available for a charge, and pets are welcome for those travelling with animals.

We stayed at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on Saturday night ready to attend Gladiators live at the NEC the following day. I had been a bit concerned about the stay as a number of recent reviews had been quite negative. I have to say our experience did not reflect that at all. The room itself was on the first floor and was a really decent size. I was a little concerned about the temperature in the room given that the UK had been experiencing a heatwave, but the rooms felt comfortable and a fan had been provided and was already switched on ahead of our arrival. The room was clean and tidy and well presented. The only small negative is that the cold tap on the bath didn't work at all, literally nothing came out when turned so we could only shower. There was a really good selection for breakfast and I felt the breakfast room was well laid out and comfortable. The key highlight of this hotel is definitely it's location. We took a taxi from the station on arrival but later realised you could cut through the hotel and do the journey easily on foot. Google maps is unfortunately very deceptive with its routing! We are already planning to stay again for another event later in the summer.

I was in a king suite for my stay. The room was lovely and large and has a brilliant view of the lake and resorts world. However, the Aircon/ air cooling system was very poor so while we wanted to spend more time in the room, we couldn't. Similar situation with the Executive Lounge. While it had a calm ambience it was too warm to stay for a prolonged time. The staff were lovely and, most of the time, were attentive and quick. Im a Gold Hilton Honours guest and did feel as though some parts of the room looked a little disappointing such as the bathroom. Overall an okay stay but there's a good amount of improvement needed.

I came here for a large work function of 350+ people. I was really impressed with the organisation of the hotel, especially bearing in mind it's size. Everything was handled efficiently whilst being done to a high standard. Dinner was excellent bearing in mind the number of people to serve. Room was a good size. Breakfast was also a great experience.

We use this hotel as a base for the yearly show we attend at the NEC so location wise it’s perfect. The room we booked was standard 4 star and the service is good from the front desk. Breakfast and the private lounge are musts as an upgrade for me. Breakfast hall is busy so allow time. But a good selection is on offer for your first meal of the day. Our room had a couch instead of a chair, room for two viewers if you understand the joke 😉 but the air con could have been a little more aggressive. Comfy bed and decent size TV also added comforts. Overall this hotel comfortably meets its rating.
