About The Briar Rose Wetherspoon

Food and drink are at the heart of The Briar Rose Wetherspoon, where the ground-floor pub serves the familiar all-day menu alongside a bar that's open to residents and passing trade alike. Breakfast is included in the mix too, though it's worth knowing that some plates arrive less hot than they might, so those particular about a piping-hot fry-up should manage expectations accordingly.

Upstairs, the rooms keep things simple and clean, with tea and coffee making facilities, bottled water, and en-suite bathrooms as standard. Family rooms and accessible rooms are available, and there's a lift for those who'd rather not use the stairs. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful, which goes some way to making up for the no-frills style of the place.

The location on Bennets Hill puts guests right in the middle of Birmingham, with pubs, restaurants and entertainment all within easy walking distance. Practical extras like luggage storage, free WiFi and meeting rooms make it workable for business stopovers as well as weekend visits, and the whole package is aimed squarely at guests who want a central bed at a fair price rather than added luxury.

Called in for couple of pints and some food. The food was absolutely shocking. The menu is pathetic. No steak no mixed grill no baguettes no salmon. What a waste of time. We was in a hurry so all 3 of us had fish and chips because the menu was so poor. Couldn't believe it when it turned up. The chips were nearly white the peas were cold and we couldn't find the fish. Just got a plate of batter. I know wetherspoons is supposed to be cheap and cheerful but this was just taking the mick out of customers. Nothing cheerful about it. I don't know how they are getting away with it. There was so much batter we literally had to pick it apart to try find the fish and well we didn't. The plate was just covered in batter .We just left. Wetherspoons think they can get away with anything just because they are cheaper than other pubs but this isn't food this is a rip off. Hardly any staff the place was filthy with dirty glasses hanging around and a dirty floor. But that plate full of rubbish is just taking the p. Get yout act together.

This was the final Wetherspoons in my "Five a Day" challenge. I had originally considered staying overnight in the attached hotel due to a major train delay, and in hindsight, I wish I had! The pristine condition of the interior and the incredibly friendly, helpful staff made this Spoons the absolute "nunatak" (peak) of my day. After eventually enduring a brutal, 2+ hour journey home on a delayed Avanti West Coast train with no air conditioning and a 7-year-old, I deeply regret not sticking to my gut and booking that room. I’ll definitely head straight here the next time I'm in Birmingham!

First time staying in a Wetherspoons hotel and I wasn't disappointed. Very friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, and a excellent central location. Combined with the convenient good quality food at reasonable prices, the Briar Rose is now my go-to for Brum visits.
