About The Alltimate View

Perched on the slope of Alt Hill with sweeping views across the Powys landscape to the River Usk, this small-scale wild camping spot delivers on its name. Despite the peaceful, remote feel, it's only a minute off the A40, making it wonderfully accessible for a quick escape into the Brecon Beacons National Park. Trails and bridleways lead straight from the handful of grass and gravel pitches into hiking and cycling country, while the International Dark Sky Reserve status means stargazers can catch meteors on clear nights, far from any light pollution.

Facilities are refreshingly simple—hot showers, clean loos, charging points, and a communal fridge-freezer for your supplies. The friendly owners offer practical help and local advice, and their free-roaming peacocks, chickens, ducks, and rare-breed Ryeland sheep add farmyard charm. Brecon (15 minutes) and Crickhowell (10 minutes) provide shops and eating options, or nip to the canal-side pubs in Talybont-on-Usk for an easy meal. Spacious pitches and a genuinely tranquil atmosphere make this a favourite among walkers, cyclists, and anyone seeking a no-frills Beacons base.

What visitors say

The space is incredible, from large pitches with a great view and big distances between each other, till the new shower and toilet house and beautiful peacocks. The owner is so much fun to have around and full of great tips. He even looked after our dog for an afternoon so we could go to the coal mine (Big Pit, don’t miss this one!). If you’re lucky their dog will also bring you all sorts of things (shoes, socks, gloves, sticks) from its house to play fetch with. Extra tips: - Red Lion was our favorite Inn with a delicious curry - Big Pit national coal mine museum - Swim in the river! - Trigg’s at the mill for delicious bread - Four waterfalls was a great hike. Come early!

Incredible campsite! Went a little out of the way to stay and this campsite whilst walking the beacons way and very glad I did. By far my favourite pitch up of the trip. A lovely cocker kept me company the whole time I set up in-front of the best view anyone could ask for. Had a great showers, warm, with good water pressure. The man who ran the site was friendly and very helpful. Checked in to make sure everything was okay, and that I knew where everything was, and it was all perfect. Hope to stay again some time soon!
