Brundall sits at the heart of the Norfolk Broads, a village built around water and boat life. River Retreat occupies a waterside position here, with direct access to the river at the bottom of the garden and a private mooring on the owners' small marina. The open-plan living space has French doors opening onto a decking area, so the water views follow you from the kitchen through to the sitting room. Three bedrooms—two doubles and one twin—and a bathroom with shower cubicle sleep up to six, making this a practical base for a group or family.
The kitchen is equipped for self-catering with a cooker, dishwasher, fridge and microwave. Heating, electricity, bed linen and towels are included, along with Wi-Fi. There is parking for two cars on site. The property does not permit smoking. If you bring a boat, kayak or paddleboard, the mooring and water access are ready; a bait fridge is available for fishing in season (a licence is required). Brundall itself has a railway station, a shop, fish and chip shop, and pubs serving food—one across the river, another within easy reach on foot. Great Yarmouth and the Norfolk coast are accessible by car or train, and Broadland villages and sandy beaches spread across the surrounding countryside.

What guests say
Lovely lodge, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Very quiet location with lots of swans, ducks, herons and other birds to see. You can fish from the decking but don’t expect to catch much. Guests from the neighbouring lodges also expressed their disappointment at the lack of fish. Would book again but also hire a boat to be able to fish from other parts of the river. Beware of taking young children as there is no fencing to prevent falling in, so make sure they have life jackets on. The food at the White Heron pub just down the road at the entrance to the marina was good and the staff were lovely. Enjoyed takeaways from the Bay leaf Indian and New World Chinese, both very good.

Absolutely fantastic Lodge. We have stayed at River retreat three times and stayed with Norfolk holiday lodges six times with two more booked. The lodges are always spotlessly clean both inside and out. It's home from home. (Don't want to go home) We had a lovely welcome from Tina, the manager. She always goes above and beyond looking after the lodges and guests. The lodges are all waterside, with plenty of wildlife, ducks, swans, herons, grebes etc. You can sit from the decking fishing, with boats passing by. It is so relaxing and peaceful. We hired a day boat for a week this holiday, from Bishy Barney Boats, a few miles up river and were able to moor from the decking. We explored the broads and went fishing further down the river. Our stay was just what we needed, relaxing and stress free.
