About The White Horse Inn

The High Street setting puts The White Horse Inn right in the middle of Cambridge, with the surrounding county easy to explore beyond the city's streets. It's a traditional pub at heart, with a bar and restaurant downstairs and a run of comfortable en-suite rooms above, each fitted with free WiFi and the option of drinks brought straight to the room.

The kitchen has built a name for its Sunday roasts and its Thai dishes, served in generous portions, and the dining room and bar are looked after by a welcoming team. Outside, a pretty garden with outdoor seating gives a quieter spot to eat or have a drink, and the atmosphere throughout is relaxed rather than formal. Reception operates around the clock, and free on-site parking is available for those arriving by car.

Beyond the front door, the High Street location puts the city's own restaurants, pubs and eateries within easy walking distance, while golf, horse riding and other entertainment can be found nearby for those wanting to see more of Cambridgeshire.

Went in for a father's day roast dinner, which was pre booked and cooked to perfection. Potatoes really nice, fresh yorkies always a hit. Nothing was over cooked. The beef was lovely and tender. One of us had a Thai. Soo impressed the chef was able to get it all out together. There was a complimentary soup starter which was delicious and very unexpected nice touch. Very lovely family run place. Garden is very pretty and the staff and very welcoming. The crispy chicken even went down well with my sens child who will turn his nose up to most meals. Cant wait to come back for a Thai.

Rude lady (?owner) told me to read the menu properly when it had been written incorrectly. “Papaya salad with sweet and sour sauce or fish sauce for SEAN style, served with marinated chicken thigh and sticky rice.” Unless the purpose of a comma has changed without my knowledge, the SEAN-style papaya salad should still come with chicken thigh. It did not. The waiter kindly sorted it out, and the aforementioned lady brought out the chicken thigh for my salad. However, she then went on to blame me and make me feel stupid. The chicken thighs were not marinated; they were simply deep-fried. They were so dry that I couldn’t even bite through the meat. The waiter was understanding and removed the item from the bill as it was inedible. It’s a shame, really, because it’s the most convenient place for me to eat out. I’ve had the lamb shank a couple of times before, which was delicious, and I’ve never had any problems with the service. However, that rude encounter has ruined this place for me.

The food is delicious here, well worth the journey. We’ve been here many times and the consistency is fantastic. Parking can be a bit tricky during busy times as people use it for take away food as well.

My dining companion and I arrived half hour late so having apologised our traditional Sunday roast was re heated which was perfectly acceptable due to the circumstances. Our table was situated in a rather chilly dining room that unfortunately was too far from the open fire in the inglenook fireplace. Our starter was a small bowl of delicious vegetable soup but not offered a roll or slice of say sour dough bread . Our mains arrived on cold plates but with a huge Yorkshire pudding ,a couple of beef slices , a steaming side order of tasty cauliflower cheese , roast potatoes, green beans and carrots. Presentation was fine with the owners attentive and pleasant. A nice touch would have been to have been offered horse radish sauce which , yes , I ought to have requested it , however it was something you expect when sitting down to a Sunday beef roast . Desserts were mango sorbet for my companion and a mini apple crumble with ice cream for me . Overall we enjoyed our lunch which was delicious, tasty with generous portions all nicely cooked. In these most difficult times I wish the owners well .
