We have camped here at this farmer's campsite (so it's only open for the summer season) twice in the last month as we just LOVE the tranquility of the location. A huge field, lined with beautiful mature trees (and a copse in the middle with a tree rope swing for the kids!) surrounded by woodland and farmland and just a truly special space to disconnect from the outside world. It's basic (compost loos, no electric and no running water/showers) but this is part of its charm and so attracts like-minded people who are at one with the natural environment (you know what I'm saying!!). We took our own bell tent and camping equipment and the lovely owners happily let us have water from their place (they live just a stone's throw from the site). There are 4 bell tents which, in previous years, could be hired by the night, really comfortably furnished with mattresses and bedding, rugs and stools, outdoor tables and chairs and a bbq. The tents are now up ... so presumably to be furnished in the same way soon. The other way you can spend time here is to hire the field for your own private use - so you can invite friends and family to come and camp too, so great for family/friends gatherings. Talking to the owners, there are already three weekends, this summer, that it has been booked up in this way. Narrow country lanes and a steep hill to climb to reach the field...but again, this makes you feel like you have escaped from the normal world to a magical, mystical place. PS. The alpacas are no longer there ...but there are other animals really close by for the kids to look at.
