About Castle House

Castle House occupies an 18th-century building that runs along Canterbury's Norman city walls, one of the more unusual settings for a hotel of its size in the area. With only 15 rooms, it has the feel of a small townhouse rather than a large hotel, and a number of rooms look out towards the cathedral, a nice touch for anyone wanting that view first thing in the morning.

Rooms come with air conditioning, free WiFi and in-room drinks, and the hotel has a lift for those who'd rather not tackle stairs. Breakfast is served on-site, and there's a restaurant and bar for meals and evening drinks without needing to leave the building. Meeting rooms and a garden add flexibility, and the hotel also operates as a wedding venue, with porter and concierge services on hand throughout a stay.

Canterbury East is close by, and the surrounding streets have their own mix of pubs, restaurants and eateries within easy walking distance. Leeds Castle is also within reach for a day out. Free on-site parking is available, which is a useful detail for a hotel in a historic city centre where space is often at a premium.

A lovely old place with bags of character. Super convenient for Canterbury (East) railway station. Room was lovely with nice view over the old castle. Breakfast perfect for us, not cooked but everything you really need. Main city only 5 minutes walk. Has a lovely little garden and was pretty quiet despite being located near to the ring road. Has its own (free) car park. Will be using again.

I booked for 1 night, was given a room in the coach house which was pleasant but I would advise in the heat that we currently have, if you are able to bring a a fan do, as the rooms get quite hot and there is no air-conditioning, other than a small fan. We went down for breakfast on the morning and again as it was hot decided to sit by the window in an empty room. The person working said hello and nothing else. A couple of minutes later a family showed up and then another. And although there were 3 tables of 4 we were asked to move to the back of the room on a table for 2, where it was warmer. As a lady going through the menopause, any coolness I can get the better. I didnt get a chance to then pick up anything else from the small continential breakfast. As the other families started grabbing everything else whilst I had to move. It made me feel very frustrated and I decided to go back to my room. Just before this though another couple came in and sat at the last table for 4 and WERE NOT asked to move!! When I checked out I brought it to the attention of the person. he brushed it under the carpet like it meant nothing, just saying that they have to monitor where people sit. I explained that the single tables of which there were plenty could have been butted up together instead of making people move, from where they were already settled. Plus I dont work there but if I did I would certainly offer more than hello.. Maybe ask if you would like to be by the window or at the back of the hot room. ALSO for £160 I expected more. One night would be more like £100. Its definitely not worth £160.

Great old hotel with large rooms in a perfect location! And parking! I don’t eat breakfast but if I did I’d say it was minimal.
