About The Evenhill

A carvery worth planning your day around is one of the main draws at The Evenhill, a hotel and pub on The Hill in Canterbury. Breakfasts are cooked fresh each morning, and the bar and restaurant carry a proper country pub feel, helped along by a garden and outdoor seating for warmer days.

Rooms are clean and comfortable, with en-suite bathrooms, family and accessible options, free WiFi and drinks available in room. Staff run a 24-hour reception and are consistently attentive, and the whole set-up is geared towards ease, with free on-site parking and pets welcome throughout.

Kids meals are on offer for younger guests, and the location puts Canterbury's historic landmarks and transport links within easy reach, alongside further pubs, bars and restaurants nearby, plus fishing for those who want a quieter day out. Prices are reasonable for what's included, making it a sensible base whether you're here to explore the city or just settle in for a good meal.

Having just arrived traveling down from the midlands, I was greeted with a lovely smile from the staff. The accommodation was clean tidy and checking in was fast. I was offered breakfast for the morning and they booked me in for an evening meal. As I write this review I’m sat outside enjoying a refreshing beer taking in the summer day. Wouldn’t hesitate to book again. Top pub, friendly staff - welcoming atmosphere.

Quick overnight stay at The Evenhill, and overall it was a really pleasant experience. The room was clean and comfortable, making it ideal for a short stay. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was good and freshly prepared, although a slightly larger portion would have made it even better. The pub itself has a nice atmosphere, and there is plenty of parking available on site. The location is also very convenient, with easy and direct access to Canterbury city centre.

Stopped in on a weekday to take advantage of the set menu. The food was tasty, served quickly and was hot and filling. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the pub itself was spotlessly clean. If you're in the area I would highly recommend.

The whole experience was a bit negative. It's in a passing-by village that doesn't have anywhere to go/visit. The only pub seems to be theirs and it's really small and loud, you hardly can hear the person next to you. The prices are very expensive. When we sat on the table they said we had to wait to order because they were busy in the kitchen (???!!) We felt we were ignored by the staff all evening while the other tables were properly attended. The waitress dropped my husband's starter (prawn cocktail) all over the table and she didn't bring another one (my husband picked the bits up and had to eat it---sometimes the English politeness drives me crazy). Then, no-one came to clean the table and we had to ask for a cloth! It took more than 2 hours to eat...When the bill came, they tried to charge us for drinks we paid at the bar, and when we explained we paid them already, the waitress said she had to check with the bar (sounding like she didn't trust what we were saying). And, no even a little reduction for the starter incident... Then we went to the room. The furniture its knackered and so 90s. The windows were so wet. The room was freezing. The bathroom also very 90s and rusty. The views, all the back gardens of next door neighbours. It was supposed to be a Valentine's treat for us, but it was totally ruined....Wouldn't recommend.
