About The Parkgate Hotel
The Parkgate occupies the old Cardiff post office on Westgate Street, a heavy Edwardian pile that stood empty for years before The Celtic Collection reworked it into the city's most ambitious hotel. The conversion kept the original stonework, staircases and mosaic floors, which is why no two bedrooms are quite alike — some have arched windows, others exposed columns or unusual ceiling heights. It was named AA Hotel of the Year for Wales in 2024.
Its position is remarkable. The building shares a boundary with Principality Stadium, so on match days the noise arrives through the walls, and some rooms look directly onto the stands. That is either the whole point of staying here or a reason to visit on a quieter weekend. The castle, the Victorian arcades and Cardiff Central are all within a few minutes on foot.
The Sorting Room, named for the building's former life, handles breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner in a high-ceilinged room off the lobby, and there is a compact spa with treatment rooms and a relaxation area. Service is more attentive than the size of the hotel would suggest. Rates rise steeply for international fixtures and major concerts, so book early or aim for midweek.

My family and I stayed at The Parkgate Hotel for our wedding in May 2026. My husband and I stayed in The Parkgate Suite and we were absolutely speechless when we walked in to this room. We opted for this suite to ensure my bridesmaids and I had lots of room and natural light to get ready for the wedding. This suite could not have been more perfect. There were two bathrooms which left lots of room for ladies to get ready in and a spacious living room area with a dining table that made the perfect workspace for our hair and makeup artists. The staff at The Parkgate were truly unbelievable. They even brought us a stunning breakfast spread for us to enjoy as we got ready to avoid us having to leave the room. The staff also prioritized our laundry when we checked in to make sure we could have our clothes cleaned before we left for the next destination of our trip. They even had a beautiful bottle of champagne on ice waiting for us upon our arrival. The hotel was centrally located and an easy walk to our reception location. We cannot wait to return to this hotel for our future travel and cannot recommend it enough. Thank you to the amazing staff at The Parkgate Hotel for helping make our wedding day absolute perfection. Perfect location for exploring Cardiff. Principality Stadium next door and the Castle a few minutes walk. Rooms were fantastic and felt luxurious. Lobby area looked amazing and reception staff were wonderful. Breakfast with locally sourced sausages and bacon was delicious and the service outstanding. Spa experience was great, pool with super views. Very relaxing. The real gem for me was the massage. This was genuinely the best massage I’ve ever received. The pressure was outstanding, firm, consistent, and exactly what a constant aching in my traps needed. Every bit of tension was worked out with real skill and at the end, I felt completely loose and tension‑free. The products used smelled amazing and felt great on the skin, adding to the overall sense of calm. I walked out feeling like a new person. Thank you Marcus. A brilliant experience all round, very professional and a relaxing break.

Had such a fabulous experience on a spa day at the Park Hotel. From the moment we arrived at the hotel the service was outstanding. As I walked through the lobby I was acknowledged and greeting by the front of house team, I then entered the lift which takes you to the spa but got off at the wrong floor and was promptly greeted by a lovely lady from the the house keeping team that pointed me in the right direction. When arriving at the spa I was warmly greeted at the desk and the service was 5 star from there on out. My therapist Saffron was outstanding! She really listened at our consultation and went about and beyond to give me a fantastic back and face treatment . I left the treatment room feeling so relaxed and pampered. I then went on to use the spa facilities and they didn't disappoint. Fantastic views with great facilities! My overall experience was 10/10 and the hygiene standards was to a extremely high standard. I've visited spas all over the world and at other resorts from this chain and Park Gate spa is definitely is up there with some of the best.

The good Excellent location. The food was great. Staff are wonderful-super helpful, couldn’t do enough for you. The bed was comfortable. Room felt very clean. The less good The room was very small (queen) no storage or shelves at all in the bedroom or bathroom. Hairdryer didn’t work. Odd lighting selection. Mirror in a location you couldn’t use with table in front of it. I would stay here again for sure. Might try an upgraded room for more space and more places to put things. Perhaps I got unlucky with room given to me.
