The glass-prowed building on Havannah Street has been the landmark of Cardiff Bay since the waterfront was rebuilt, and it remains the city's flagship address. Every bedroom has a private balcony, most of them facing the water, and the seven-storey atrium that runs the length of the building gives the public areas an airiness few British hotels manage. A recent refurbishment brought the rooms in line with the voco brand's warmer, less corporate style.
The spa is the reason many guests book. It occupies its own floor with a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and a long list of treatments, and it is one of the better hotel spas in Wales. Tir a Môr, the restaurant, leans on Welsh produce — Carmarthen ham, Pembrokeshire seafood, salt marsh lamb — and the bar terrace is a good place to watch the light go over the barrage.
Practically, it works best for visitors whose plans centre on the Bay: the Wales Millennium Centre and the Senedd are a five-minute walk, Mermaid Quay's restaurants slightly less. The city centre is a mile and a half away, reached by a four-minute train from Cardiff Bay station or a pleasant walk along the waterfront. There is on-site parking, which makes it a sensible choice for anyone driving.

Pros: The location is wonderful on the harbor. The rooms stayed in had a lovely bay view and beds were comfortable. Cons: The bathroom was dirty, with a hair on the sink and the bottom of the bathtub stained black and mold in corners. Received a 8:55am phone call about maintenance for exterior windows, while we were still asleep with “do not disturb” hung on the door. I would rate this hotel 3-4 stars, nowhere near a 5 star hotel. Parking is pricey and in a public, open lot across from the hotel.

Good hotel although I would rate it a good 4*. We had dinner in the bar each night and the staff were excellent. Food was good. Draught cider off all 3 days we were there so not great. Pool times for kids is very disappointing especially as they are guests in the hotel (only 2 hours in the morning 7-9 I think and only 2 in the afternoon 4-6). Nice area and overall a good experience.

We have not stayed here for a while so wasn’t sure how it would be however it always seems to have a good reputation, We were not disappointed and it exceeded expectations. The room was excellent very well equipped with all we needed and great views over the Bay Area. The bar and restaurant were to a high standard (we did not dine there) and breakfast was outstanding in choice, freshness and quality. Did not have time to use the Spa but visited and looks fabulous. Cannot praise the staff enough as everyone was welcoming, cheerful, friendly and helpful. I had a telephone call the day before arrival to check if we needed helpe with anything so all spot on. A very well run hotel! Thanks for a great stay.

The Voco is a modern-elegant hotel with exceptional staff. My room was on the "Tiger Bay" 7th floor with panoramic vews. While the large balcony is a great treat, the room sensibly has two armchairs that look at the view from behind the sliding glass doors realistically acknowledging that in Wales the weather might require some shelter while enjoying the view. The room was beautifully furnished and decorated and the bed as comfortable as you could wish with high quality linens. The bathroom was elegant and highly functional with a push-button rainfall shower and copious large towels. The check-in staff are welcoming and efficient. As a Diamond IHG member I was made to feel appreciated and upgraded to a lovely room without requesting it. The message on the bathroom mirror was a great surprise! The restaurant staff make every guest feel as if they are their entire focus (shout out to Loretta although there were at least half a dozen other service stars in the restaurant.) The breakfast offers both a high quality buffet and Al la carte items at no additional cost. The dinner menu has a Welsh theme and generous and tasty dishes.
