About Ox Hotel Carlisle

Ninety-two rooms make Ox Hotel Carlisle one of the larger places to stay on London Road, close to the city centre and within reach of the Cumbrian countryside. Staff are consistently helpful and the beds hold up well, which counts for a lot after a day of sightseeing or driving through the region, though some parts of the building show signs of wear and could do with more attention.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, drinks and free WiFi, and there's a restaurant and bar on site along with breakfast each morning. An indoor swimming pool, meeting rooms and luggage storage round out the facilities, so the hotel can suit both an overnight stop and a longer stay for business or leisure.

Free on-site parking makes it an easy base for driving into the city or further out into Cumbria, and there are pubs, restaurants and a golf course nearby for those who want to venture out. It's a straightforward, well-priced option for anyone who wants comfort and convenience without paying over the odds.

Short lovely walk in the sun from the train station to be greeted by lovely, friendly staff. The room was simplistic but lovely and met the needs we needed for the price we paid. Access to a gym was a bonus along with good quality deals on drinks at the bar and a very nice tasty food menu. All staff were very welcoming and helpful when needed. Would definitely recommend for the price we paid, better than the nationwide brands!

Horrible experience! The hotel is incredibly run down and is in need of a massive overhaul. The room itself was clean and the staff were nice. I wish I'd read the reviews but I booked it in a hurry. I ended up leaving after the fire alarm went off twice, first time was someone smoking in their room and the second time was a child attempting to use an airfryer! I felt so unsafe that I hung my car keys on the door handle. Half an hour later I was woken up by them being knocked off. I ended up leaving after that and was lucky enough to find another hotel and great expense to myself but at least I feel safe.

Disappointed with the customer service. I had to cancel due to an unexpected family emergency and fully accepted that I'd booked a non-refundable rate. I wasn't demanding a refund, but simply hoped for some goodwill in the form of a refund or a credit voucher to use within 12 months. Unfortunately, no flexibility was shown despite contacting both the hotel and the booking provider. It's a shame, as a small gesture would have made a big difference. I hope the hotel reviews its policy for genuine exceptional circumstances.

Staff were really friendly, can't fault them at all. We stayed on two separate occasions. Room was ok, walls are thin so can hear others in their room. The lock on the room door didn't feel secure enough, wouldn't really turn to lock. Room was clean but the water pressure in the shower was not good at all. Furniture needs updating. Outside in the corridors the floor wasn't clean really. Most likely won't stay again.
