Stayed this week for my 69th birthday... couldnt have stayed in a smaller room if we tried.. it was clean and the shower was brill. No wardrobe as the room wasnt big enough however there was a few hangers on a coat hook on the wall.. bed was comfy but bedding could do with an update, it felt old and well used. There were tea/coffee facilities. Only drawers were the bedside tables. Not sure if we would come again if we did not in room 20!!

Was literally a 20 minute walk from the train station. Absolutely lovely pub and staff were really friendly. In a really good location to go exploring the town. The room was amazing and bed so comfortable. Breakfast was absolutely lovely too

Stopped here for food and we are so glad we did. I had the braised feathered beef with mash and kale with beef dripping gravy, oh my, what a taste experience. The beef was melt in your mouth, the mash was sublime and the gravy topped it all of very very nicely. My wife had steak and ale pie, which was nicely filled with tender beef pieces enclosed in a hearty crust pastry. chips were nice aswell. Also enjoyed each of the real ales here. A really good pint or three! Highly recommended.

So, this is a balanced view on this place (couple staying 2 nights). The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had to wait to check in as no reception staff available but the bar worker came over and checked us in. He was friendly but gave us a room key and when we went up to the room, the cleaner was still in there. We went for a beer and went in after. The reception is still within the bar area. The room is small and functional but was cold. There was a plug in heater that did get the room warm. The wardrobe had just 4 mishmash hangers so, not great for preparation. Bathroom was very big for a small room and the shower excellent. TV is tiny but hopefully you're not in the room that long? Location is really what this place is all about - it's access to everything is walkable to everywhere with the revamped Chester Market just 5 mins walk and the main city about a 7 min walk (Cathedral 5 mins). It's not cheap for what it is but the bar is nice and a period property. There is no car park and the nearest (about a 10 min walk) charges approx £10 a day.
