About Stone Villa Chester
Stone Villa occupies a stone-built house of 1850 on a quiet cul-de-sac off Hoole Road, in the Victorian suburb north-east of the walls that has long been Chester's bed-and-breakfast quarter. It holds an AA five-star gold rating, which places it at the top of the guest-house category in the city, and it is run hands-on by resident owners rather than managed at a distance.
There are ten rooms across three grades: standard rooms on the first floor, superior rooms on the ground and first floors, and four executive rooms spread over the ground and upper floors. All are en suite, and all come with free wifi, a hospitality tray, a safe, a hairdryer and an ironing board. The executive rooms are the most generous and are worth the difference for a stay of more than a night or two. Decoration is smart and traditional, and standards of housekeeping are consistently high.
Breakfast is the reason many guests return. It is cooked to order from an extensive menu, served in a large breakfast room, included in the rate, and dietary requirements are handled without fuss. There is no restaurant or bar, but Faulkner Street in Hoole is a five-minute walk and holds a genuine run of independent restaurants, delis and pubs, which many visitors prefer to the city-centre chains.
Free on-site parking is the practical advantage over anywhere inside the walls, and the railway station is close enough to walk with a bag. The city centre is around fifteen minutes on foot along Hoole Road and through the Northgate, or a short bus ride. It suits couples, walkers and business visitors, and anyone who would rather have a proper breakfast and a car space than a hotel lobby.

What guests say
Where to begin... We stayed at Stone Villa for two nights over the weekend recently; to say it was disappointing would be an understatement. When we arrived there were two employees sat behind reception, neither of whom even stood up to greet us, and certainly didn't ask to help with our bags. The room itself was fine - clean, but very small. The stairs creak a lot and the whole building just seems like it needs a lick of paint truth be told. Breakfast - the food was decent, the service was appalling. Looked at me like I'd just invented fire when I ordered a hot chocolate, and said they would be unable to make a cappuccino for my girlfriend. Not exactly 5*. I don't know who or what provided them with this accreditation, but I have a few questions for them... This would all be minor if it was a 4*, but I have stayed in 4* hotels that are considerably nicer (and cheaper) than this was. I don't know how they can be labelled as a hotel when they don't even have a bar - a B&B or guesthouse would be more appropriate. On the Sunday, while watching telly in the room, the wifi went down. It remained off all night - still wasn't back up and running when we checked out the next day. No mention of it from the staff whatsoever. How do you not have a backup wifi in a 5* hotel? I was going to give this 2/5, but just writing this has pissed me off to be honest. 1*

We were warmly welcomed by Amy at the front desk and shown our room. The hotel was warm, clean and very well maintained, our room was lovely and had a very comfy bed. All the staff were very polite and the breakfasts were delicious. Stone Villa is situated at the end of a cul-de-sac at Hoole, just outside Chester and very quiet at night. Hoole itself has a friendly village feel with its own shops, bars and pubs just around the corner. Chester is a 20 minute walk away which is great if you want to leave the car and enjoy all that Chester has to offer. It's fabulous and we will return.

Very last minute booking after our day at Chester Zoo. We'll appointed modern rooms with fridge and large en suite with a bath. Very friendly service and lovely breakfast (cooked breakfast is extra). Well located for bars and restaurants and short walk into the old city.
